If you mean the one at the bottom that needs to by closed and snapped shut, then no. The whole install was quick and straight forward to do. The longest part was shaving I the edges of the handle cut to enable me to slide the handle on and have it click into place.

Today’s lockdown tasks were...
Fitted a rail cover, what a difference it makes to the side of the van!
Before...
After...
Followed by a little bit of detailing on the drivers side - washed, clay bar’d and polished (sun vanished just as I got my phone out)
First time with the clay, amazing, thought I’d washed and removed the tar spots before starting, couldn’t have been more wrong!
Any recommendations for a good tar remover?
Still need to detail the trims and the rest of the van, however it’s all about pacing at the moment!

Cheers!
Feels like I’m on the finish straight, however...
Mods still to do :-
1. Finish off the cutting and polishing
2. Fab and install magnetic retainers for my bike holders
3. Confirm if new reversing camera’s work with head unit and fit (either beside the rear door handle or more covert into the rear VW badge)
4. Run water line from wash tank to rear and fit flush fitting QR for my power washer
5. Limo tint for the rear windows to get rid of the grey look
6. Remap
7. Build and fit storage in the back for my bike gear and tools
8. Carpet the sides
9. New front seats
10. Rear wiper delete including my first foray into VCDS

11. Trial fitting of a VW flip emblem reversing camera into a spare barn door(long term project!)
12. Buy a newer Caddy and start again

And all because I just wanted an old, bog standard van to chuck my bike in to go MTB’ing
Mod’ing your Caddy gets addictive, very quickly!

Ha ha those last few lines could have been written by me.....and no doubt lots of others. My Mrs wanted a new car and to cut a long story and much begging, she had my car and I had the van. Essentially just to carry my bikes and drums about. Then I came on here and realised that you pretty much have to spend a fortune on doing it up.....but it’s got to be done!

Ha, totally agree... the credit card bill arrived this morning... I got to it last... need I say any more
My missus just said, “wouldn’t have been cheaper to buy a newer one” and I said, soon, real soon... I took her comment as the green light to buy another one once I’ve completed number 11
Got the first layer of top coat laid down on the rear wiper delete plug today. Got carried away and jumped to number 10

Rear wiper delete now almost complete

Discovered some rust under the old wiper cover, a quick dab with touch up paint will have to suffice for the moment, might respray the doors in a month or so...
Started fitting my reversing camera too, what a pain that turned out to be... nicked the cable and ruined the camera, not a happy chappy just now!!!!
Ran the video cable from the back to the front ready for when I can get a replacement ordered up, no pictures because I was still fuming at myself for knackering the cable into the camera! I had calmed down by the time I’d run the cable to the head unit, 4 hours later
I’ll take some pictures when I complete the camera install

@C Chris, which ones did you get? Been looking at lots of them and not sure if they will all be canbus error free.

These are the ones I bought. Took a while to arrive, about 2 weeks, but they seem to be working as they should. Seller messaged me to let me know if they didn’t work they would send out a “fix” which I assume would have been a plug resistor of some sorts. I’ve a 2010 mk3 pre face lift Caddy.

So, trial magnet for the bike holder catch arrived today.
Trial number 1...
25mm diameter, 14kg pull magnet, repurposed bungee, cable ties, screw in ring and a bit of plastic conduit
Screwed to the plywood with a wooden block glued and screwed behind
And holding the bike clamp up
Going to run it like this for a bit to see if it works as well as building a roller cabinet for my bike gear and pressure washer connection before carpeting the the whole side of the van
Or I might change it for one that simply folds down and fits flush!
