Made some good progress fitting the spilt charge relay kit and inverter this weekend...

Luckily the previous owner had routed a power cable through the grommet into the engine bay.. I disconnected this cable and used it to pull through the power cable for the split relay.


I mounted the first fuse holder to the vans fuse box cover (the bay needs a good clean)



I decided to mount everything to a raised board using 3mm ply and some blocks for feet.. I didn’t like the idea of the cabling, inverter and fuse box lying loose on the carpet.
Contemplating the layout took a lot longer than I thought, especially by trying to keep the fused cable to the battery as short as possible and keeping earthed and live cables separate


I cut a couple of holes in the ply just under where the inverter would be mounted and added some usb powered fans for extra ventilation.. the inverter has a usb output so the fans should come on when ever it’s in use

After a lot of cable cutting and terminal crimping, everything is wired up!
Next is to fit the lot under the passenger seat, wire in the positive cable from the starter battery to the VSR and earth the battery to the seat base mount.
Also I’ve got some plastic 5mm tube to run from the battery to somewhere out of the van for ventilation

Luckily I had the existing cable there already so I could tie the two together and pull mine through

Wired up the spilt relay system to the starter battery and leisure battery.. and then realised my voltmeter had died‍♂️ So left the inverter disconnected for now.
Everything seems to be working.. I’ll look into making a cover to go over the battery and the wiring on the board

Thanks! I'll double check but I'm pretty sure the ply is 450x280mm and around 100mm off the floor.
The floor under where the bed overhangs drops down on one side so I've got longer "feet" blocks on one side to allow the board to sit level.
This is a pretty tight fit when the battery is in so it can't go anywhere. Also with the layout, I like how it's easy to disconnect the battery and pull it out whenever it's not in use.
I'd recommend using some cardboard first to make sure it'll all fit and you can get the board in and out without having to take the seat out.

Appreciate it. I was thinking about tucking the battery under, but makes sense that way.

That was my initial plan, but the battery I've got is slightly too tall to fit under the bed and the bolt's on the terminal clamps sit even higher.
If you're going for a smaller battery it might fit underneath or side on.

Got some Touran door cards on the way! They’ve got white painted handles and switch panels and come with a matching head unit surround. Plan is to paint/swap the white panels out for gloss black and retrim the cloth material sections. Next is figuring out what I need to convert the windows to electric

JD, nice build so far dude, just a a quick question what didbyou do with the B Pillar area where the bulkhead was removed? I see you have it carpeted some how?
