A little trip to get the alignment checked and adjusted.

Turned out that the Toe was initially out by over 4 degrees and the Caster was also way out, not surprising really as I fitted an electromechanical steering rack in place of the hydraulic one and had the subframe off.

Van was quite skittish on the way to get it aligned and awesome on the way back!

Also good to know that the subframe, suspension and steering is all in tip top condition.

Jeez ! But that looks mighty fine !!!
Sounds good too no doubt.

Is there still a battery under that rather fine air filter ?

petrev cheers buddy!

It certainly does sound mighty fine! Still grinning from ear to ear every time I fire it up and drive it!

Battery has been relocated to behind the passenger seat, still to sort out a battery jumper connection just in case required.

I still need to remove some redundant wiring and wrap the loom, weekend job I think.

Love it 🤗

Jump start wise, there is the nice fat +ve input wire to the fuse box just there in the engine bay.

So, replacement engine not always starting on the first crank or taking a while to start, time to investigate!

Options…

1. No/low fuel pressure
2. Something faulty in the intake
3. Injector fault
4. Tired battery

So, first option 4

Fired up first time, brilliant, turns out the Quattro’s battery is 10+ years old and needs replaced.

Time to remove the old TDI rear badge and replace with something a little more in keeping…

And might as well label the engine and grill up too!

Replacement heater panel fitted today along with heated seats and aircon regas after the engine install.

Saves a dash out and climatic to climatronic swap for heated seats, result!

Now I’ll have to do something about the nail marks!

Cleared the last error code today… G85 no communication.

After a lot of checking and rechecking, swapping out steering angle senders and steering wheel control modules finally found the problem…

Turns out the the steering wheel control module in a van with hydraulic power steering only has 1 pair of canbus wires (convenience can) although the wiring diagrams show 2 pairs, convenience and drive canbus there was wasn’t 2 pairs.

Steering module with only 1 pair of canbus wires

It was only through the power of this forum that I found the answer! There was an old post from several years back that the OP posted up about the exact same issue and the solution he found, brilliant!

Drive canbus wires added in. Salvaged from the donor Audi wiring harness.

Error free instrument cluster! Even a 20 minute traffic delay couldn’t wipe the big grin off my face on the way home after adapting the steering assist!

Don’t you just love the power of a good forum! Ta!

Nice one, glad you're now error free.
Time for some proper road miles now.
