I take it they were generic and too long ?
Where did you get them ? Name/link.

Perfect fit to the wheel arch trims. More like a really neat trim piece than an aggressive side skirt.
Much better suited to accompany the arch trims.

Nice work.
Can you do mine if I ever decide to get arch trims + sides ?
:)

Cheers! I needed them to link the wheel arches to give a better visual.

The arch trims have also been modified and textured which as you mention means they all match.

They are eBay specials from powerdesignuk https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/282754681060, £110 incl. delivery.

They were 5.5mm too long to be able fit under the wheel arch liners, easy enough to cut and shut though

They need to be bonded on unlike VW original ones, they might end up coming off in a few months if I can source some OEM ones that I like or see at Tatton park Image

I’ve bonded along the entire side and underside and drilled drain holes at each end to ensure there isn’t any trapped water to cause issues down the line.

And happy to send in progress pictures to assist you…

Yes, I like the really integrated look you have managed.
Are they Vanstyle/RGM wheel arch covers, or VW ?

Look great either way.
My trouble is while I normally get arch trims (ever since my MK1 Jetta 1980s) my Caddy is Starlight Blue which is really rather dark and gives no real contrast for the arches.

First world problems !

I went with vanstyle mk4 arches, had to cut and weld the front ones for my mk3 as the front bumper line is a little different.

Sounds like you might want to go down the body colour route however, black would also look nice, subtle against the starlight though.

And yeah, first world problems indeed.

Very nice mate, looking forward to seeing how you execute the install.

You’ll want to order some adjustable front drop links as the ABP struts cause preload of the front ARB due to lazy design (not making them sided).

Lister79 cheers! There should be a pair of adjustable drop links in the big heavy box, not opened it yet, that’s Sundays job. If not then I’ll get a set ordered up.

There’s gotta be a mod you can do with those hedgehogs

Looks like you’re going to be busy fitting your air suspension mate, I’m pretty confident it won’t be your last mod though!

Not sure I’d get away with incorporating the ‘hogs into the van, Mrs C has them counted and checked!

And you might be right! Isn’t it strange the things we tell ourselves…. Last mod… aye right! I’ve started looking at superchargers, cylinder head spacers, etc…

Yeah, air suspension prep is taking longer than I thought… 7 hours spent today forming a 2mm thick mild steel box for the compressors and a bracket for the Grinds control unit

I gave up the ‘last mod’ thing ages ago. Mainly because it sent my wife into fits of giggles. “Yeah right” she’d say!!

I imagine there’s a lot of work involved mate, making progress it’s all good though.

So.. made a start on fabricating my box for the compressors, driers and air tank

Revision #3

WiP, folded, clamped and welding under way… it’s been a while since I’ve held a welding torch in my hand Image

Image

After 2 failed attempts… the final version c/w tank and air vents. Mrs C added the bow as she couldn’t believe this took 3 days!
Installation in a couple of weeks under the van, through the load area.
Image

Bracket for the Grinds controller, alarm, BT module and power connection test fitted. Started pulling in the power wires along with the front airlines. Excuse the mess, all hoovered prior to refitting covers/carpets

New power wire pulled in by removing the soon to be redundant PTC heater power wire making it a breeze!

Image

Test fit of the control panel

Image

Flexible conduit used to give mechanical protection to the power wires as well as the air lines. Airlines to the front are of equal length to reduce the risk of uneven transitioning of the bags.

Image

Nice little transition through the scuttle after a slight mod to the existing wire seal. Might change this as it looks a little out of place.

Good work Colin.
Are you having a trip to the scrap yard for some genuine brake hose pipe brackets to use to secure the front leader hoses properly?

Cheers Chris!

Haha, of course! I also need to pick up a cover to seal the space left behind when I remove my PTC heater.
