PJD wrote: Sat Jul 27, 2024 8:00 pm Have done exactly the same as you. Made a few mods to make it less van and more comfortable and then had a couple of camping trips in it.

I'm a bit further with the camper build and a bit less on the vehicle mods but it's a great feeling to use it for what it was bought for.

Cool! Exactly, less of a van. More comfortable to use daily and drive.
Any learnings so far?
I was a bit disappointed that I hadn’t come further before the first camping trip. But it was as you said still a great feeling to use it for what it was bought for.

My build is here!

I've commented on how I seem to do many of the jobs multiple times to get right.

I've got some tips on the carpeting and floor that might save you some time

I realise I have been quite bad at updating this thread lately. Stuff is happening, but I sometimes forgett to take photos and other times I forgett to post the photos I've taken.

Ive started to carpet the interior with foam backed suade fabric. Comes out really neat! I hope it will look and feel as good in the van as the parts do individually!

The rear wheel covers are a great Idea. Do you have a part number for that?

I think i found both.

Sorry for a late reply, but yeah, you are correct with the part numbers!

Thanks!!
Hope I haven’t overdone it. Almost the entire van space will be covered in that liner.

Got some stuff done today. Pretty much made a modification with no return.

Installed a semi flexible solar panel from photonic universe. Choose this one due to the neat installation possibilities. No visible cables on top. But still had to drill a hole in the roof..

Glued the panel down with Sika 521 UV.
For this job I had Dan Chambers latest caddy build as inspiration.

Todays job were more like of the cosmetic kind. Reupholster the inner roof with more of the foam backed suede fabric. The inner roof comes from a caddy maxi life -16.

Poffe me old mate
Did u think to affix these side on (opposite way to how you have) so u could get more panels in the roof ... Or are they too long to turn around ?

Yeah, actually the thought hit me before I had done any irreversible modifications. But unfortunately this particular panel was too long to glue it sideways between the rails. Could have bought a bigger panel though. There were more sizes available. But this size was the only one that were significantly discounted at the time for the order.

Finally got my newly reupholstered suede head liner in the car. 8/9 clips snapped in nicely with some persuasion. The 9th I probably will have to try to exchange. My girlfriend is very happy not having it in the living room anymore.

Thx Stu! It is rewarding seeing it come together.
Unfortunately next step were A-pillars. And the original turned out to be shorter and of a different size than the mk4 life version that the roof came out of. But hey, you win some and loose some
