More inherited parts, hard to say no to mates rates
18z calipers, 350mm disks.

Swapped the wheels for a friend's Mk.7 GTD Nogaro's.
Fit OEM style roof bars and a Yakima Aerofoil to curb the slight whistle.

Finally sourced all the parts to swap out the original Halogens for the Xenon/LED units, and code them in.

Did you notice any deficit in light with the 35W compared to the original Halogens?
After reading all the 25W criticism, I also went straight for the 35W.

I haven't tried driving in the dark yet
But looks like it's gonna be quite a bit of difference judging by how the light projects on the wall.

Did the insulation you installed in the front arch do any noticeable difference?

To be honest, I find it hard to notice a difference after fitting each of these different insulation / sound deadening pieces.. I think I've done nearly a dozen different bits now
But overall its a very big difference compared to the original baseline.

When I first got the van I remember having to considerably raise my voice to talk whilst driving, whereas now it's much more akin to the volume of a car.

As long as the package of insulation helps I guess that's the important bit

Great build thread. It’s a fantastic colour the Blackberry Metallic, especially in the sun. I couldn’t find one but have bought a Starlight blue one and will be borrowing a lot of the part numbers you’ve listed to get on top of the noise issue to start with. Can I ask, where did you get the bonnet insulation from? Did you use autodoc or euspares for any parts? I’ve not used either of them before but they seem to list multiple manufacturers of the same part, and quite a bit cheaper than VW. I look forward to the next instalment on your build.

I had a shortlist for colours when looking for mine - blackberry, toffee, or starlight

From memory I used LLLParts for the bonnet insulation - they're a good source for part numbers as they have all the diagrams set out into sensible categories that you can search through.
Also helps that their prices are often cheaper than direct from VW, only caveat is the delivery can take a few weeks.

Made the slight upgrade from manual AC to Climatic, as well as adding heated seat buttons.
Ideally I'd have liked to upgrade to fully Climatronic, but that requires a lot more work.

Took the controls apart to swap the knobs back to the Caddy style.



Heated front screen button relocated to lower row of buttons (refitted with new loom to the BCM) with TCS, TPMS and park assist to be added in future.


Temp sensors are added to the dashboard vent & footwell vent, behind the glovebox.
Upper vent to pin T20/3, lower vent to pin T16/4, they both share a ground which pins into T20/18, of the heater control unit.

Another bunch of retrofits added!
Many thanks to the how-to's on here, and TommyZooom for providing the looms.

Started with heated fan washer jets. The loom runs straight to the internal fuse board in the drivers footwell, fitted with a 5A fuse - no coding necessary.


Then washer fluid level sensor. Currently coiled up in the engine bay. Waiting for more bumper-off jobs to fit the sensor, but the loom is wired. The loom runs the same route as above but up into the clocks instead of the fuse board.


Both looms ran through the bulkhead grommet in the driverside footwell.



Then TPMS and TCS. The loom runs from the centre switch to the driver footwell for illumination & a new 5A fuse to be fitted, and also runs from the centre switch to the passenger footwell to enter the engine bay through the bulkhead grommet - through to the ABS pump.
To gain access to the ABS pump I had to remove the intake and battery.


Pin 4 for the TCS (yellow wire), and pin 20 for the TPMS (light grey wire).


Coding for both is done within the ABS 03 module Byte 15, bit 4/5 for TPMS, and bit 6 for TCS.

Upgraded to hybrid stalks, thanks to Giddy for the modifications.
