Well today I went and dropped off my old gearbox to a fellow forum member Audiobull. Well what a hoot it is to drive now, The 6 gears just seem to match the 1.9's 104 gee gee's so well and it feels so much quicker in 3rd and 4th that you can actually make some good progress now and overtake.
If you are thinking about this conversion DO IT. I am so glad I did as it transform's the van.

Only 2 downside's

1, Cruise control doesn't work in 6th!!!!!!!!!!!!
2, You will want more POWWWWERRRR.

Am thinkin about doin this mate whats needed and which golf boxes fit bud?

Coding needs changed to sort cruise issue and then get a Pendle Performance remap. Sorted! (Do a search for more info on cruise in sixth gear)

I didn't realize how much difference it would make to the drive ability of the van. Its made a huge difference. Total cost inc Labour, a new crankshaft oil seal £79.27+ vat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, oil, flywheel bolt kit was £398. Plus the £450 for the gearbox kit.

Hi, I'm pretty new to the forum and this will be my first constructive post.

Thinking of having a go at this 6 speed conversion, my clutch bite is really low and is juddering a fair bit so hear we go.. From reading I understand that the box from a mk4 golf fits, "codes etc above".

What I am unsure of is the shafts from what i remember on the golf cv's have a nut on rather that a bolt, I understand clutch and flywheel are required and starter motor but I'm not 100% sure of other bits required.

I would love to do mine as I mostly drive on motorway, but Im just not sure if it's too much for me too take on !! I've changed a few engines etc in the past so should be ok but not honestly sure !!

Where did you get it done... I've been asking round a few places, some don't even want to know.

Hey mate, sorry to drag this up. I'm planning to do the swap and am trying to get an idea of everything I need to get (can't access the how to guide yet as I've not posted enough ..)

Just wondering what you meant by the flywheel bolt kit? Sounds dumb but is the crankshaft oil seal the gasket that goes between the gearbox and engine? Would appreciate your help !!
