@CChis. Cheers mate, I’m made up with how it’s looking these days. I sat on the camping pod for a few days before I decided to pull the trigger. It originally came from van furniture, if you fancy one. For what I paid for it 2nd hand, it wasn’t worth me making something similar myself, but they’re quite expensive new.

@RY_VW thanks for the kind words mate

I made a start on the carpeting today. I had to re shape the ply panels to make them fit in the recesses properly.
I took my time and did what I could in between rain showers. Hopefully the weather will be ok tomorrow and I can crack on. Image

Got the sliding doors done today, again I had to re shape the panels to fit the recesses properly. I also used the pre drilled holes around the bottom to give it a more factory look.
I’m not gonna lie, it’s not 100% perfect but it’s good enough and I’m happy with how it’s turned out so far.

I’ve found some essentials needed for carpeting.

1) A wife who doesn’t go too mad when you get spray glue on the dining room table.
2) A wife who lends you her ultra sharp dress making scissors.
3) A wife who goes out and leaves you to crack on in piece.

Just for clarification, I only have one wife ImageImageImageImage

@Lea2kcaddy. Cheers mate. Bit of a slow burner this one but it’s going in the right direction.
There have so far been very little profanities uttered during the last few days work which is equally rare as it is amazing!

Swan’s caddy build

Post by the swan fiend »

While idly looking on eBay last night. I happened to find an engine cover I’m 99% sure will fit. Part number is 03L103925R. I’ll just need to get the mounting bolts and seal for the oil filler cap, but at £42 I’m not complaining!
I also ordered 2 bike clamps from Amazon for the inside of the van, they should be a better option than the bungee cords I use now. They fit into a bracket so can be removed when not in use, saw the fold up ones, but didn’t fancy banging my head on them when we use it as a mini camper.
Anyway, these will be getting shortened to pull the bikes closer in, and fitted to the ply once it’s been carpeted.

I must say thanks to @CChis for giving me the idea for them. Image

Awesome! I like the fact that they are removable. I might change mine to these as I’m also thinking of doing a bit of a bed conversion in the back.

I had a feeling you might mate. They’re really solid and seem like good quality.

I have carpeted both side of the bulkhead today. Was a bit of a PITA to do but I’ve done what I think is a decent job. Tomorrows plan is to cut a new roof panel, carpet that and refit it and the bulkhead……weather permitting of course!!

Got a bit more done on the van today. I managed to fit the roof panel and bulk head that I carpeted a few weeks ago.
I’ve been waiting for bits, been a bit busy and then I’ve had man flu so it’s been ages in the making but I’m getting there now.
Stupidly, I fitted the roof first and then tried to fit the bulkhead….wrong way around as I discovered! The whole thing was a bit of a pig to get sorted as the carpet adds thickness to everything and makes things tight.

I finished carpeting the van today…….finally!!
It’s been a very slow job, this one. I’m glad it’s done. There are a few bits that aren’t 100% perfect, but hopefully they’re not that noticeable.

Next job is to connect the 12v socket up to the fuse box, and after that I’m going to do something with the engine cover I bought a while back.
