13th June. Some kind of progress, had a weekend off for a Wedding. Today got all the battery terminals crimped and sleeved. Then connected the battery all up.

Got a few issues at the moment, for some reason I cannot connect to the ABS, Airbag or Power steering modules. I'm not sure if this is because I'm waiting for the ECU to arrive from Twinsport tomorrow. So will see how that goes when it arrives. If not it'll be a case of stripping it back down again to try and figure out what's gone wrong 🤦

18th June Decided at 11:30PM this evening to go out and put the engine in 🤣. Was too hot when I got home from work and was paranoid it would be too hot tomorrow. So here we are 😂 it'll be coming back out in a few days again anyway as I plan on painting the engine bay. I've literally put it in to do some coding, testing and any fault finding.

Hopefully this weekend I'll get the fuel tank swapped but all depends on how bloody hot it is

18/19th June So engine in, 99% wired in. But having issues with coding it seems, I knew this would be a hard battle but i am bloody struggling

ABS
0197 - Check Coding of ECUs on Powertrain Data Bus
P1647 00 [137] - -
[CAN signal MO2_Motor_Code or MO2_Getr_Code wrong]
MIL ON - Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear

Steering Wheel (Bit of a weird one this, as didn't have the fault before and haven't gone near that)
227355 - Windshield Wiper/Washer Switch
B1149 13 [009] - Open Circuit

Instruments
13654544 - Databus
U1121 00 [009] - Missing Message
[Steuergerät für Telefon keine Kommunikation]

But we have some kind of progress, Fingers crossed today i'll have the new tank and pump in place.

Great build Dan, currently doing the same with mine…

You don’t happen to have the part number for the clima control panel? Like you have have heated screen but the current panel I have is without it!

Thanks guys

I will grab part number for panel. It's tucked away at the moment.

R Engine will be having stage 2 parts fitted. But other than that, just standard.

Managed to get two of the faults sorted today. Just the ABS one left

Hi there I’ve noticed both you and lister have sent your ECU off to twinsport what’s the reason for this
I plan to do a conversion myself in the next week or 2 and just trying to gather as much info as possible
I know lister mentioned simos18 but what exactly are they doing if you don’t mind me asking

Twinsport has managed to crack all the coding and immobilisation stuff for the ECU myself and Lister use.

Depending what conversion you are doing, you may be able to take it elsewhere

It’s all because the SIMOS ECU’s are alot more complex/locked down than previous generation ECU’s.
As the EA888.3 Golf R engine is MQB platform the SIMOS 18.1 ECU’s from that model won’t function with the PQ platform Caddy ABS/IMMO. This means that you have to use SIMOS 18.2 ECU’s which are installed on some PQ platform models. However, as the 18.2 ECU has software installed to suit the PQ platform EA888.3, the frf file, power class and other settings needs changed to work correctly with the MQB platform engine and PQ platform ABS/IMMO etc.
After spending hundreds of hours developing this on my van there is currently only Twinsport (that I know of) that has the knowledge to do this.
There are other ways round it, such as IMMO off (which is a total bodge IMO) or if you’re lucky enough to find matching engine/ECUs this removes the need for any of this. But even to change just the VIN in a SIMOS ECU takes a certain method and software.

Well that was a better reply than mine haha

But as said, theres a lot of RnD into this, and i'm very grateful to Lister for helping me with mine. Hours of wiring diagrams and spreadsheets are in this.

Sadly no real updates at the moment, engine is out ready to paint the engine bay hopefully this weekend, so will have some more updates

Hi Dan I’ve been speaking to twinsport and he’s mentioned you’ve added the MPI back on to your engine as the software is set up for this.
How’ve you gone about doing this, just fitting the old manifold or have you gone for an aftermarket part like the one sold by precision race works

So bit of a further update.. I think I'm actually missing some hair now.

Engine went in, ABS didn't like it. Seems as though an MK100 abs pump doesn't like the ECU. So swapped out to a 2017 Scirocco MK60... Then the brake lines didn't fit

So MK3 caddy brake lines installed 😓

All coded, only thing left is Steering angle sensor calibration.

And then went to fit my 4" trackslag downpipe, didn't fit 😩😅

So I've had to order a 3" one now and have it ceramic coated to help with heat issues on the servo.

Now just a waiting game, of when parts arrive and things go back in 😩
