Lovely looking Van @CALSCADDY
Did you do the cover for the sliding door and tailgate ? is that carpet or suede ?, how did you re-fix it afterwards ? are they the OEM clips for the normal panels re-used ?
It's just I want to cover the black hardboard lower section of my Tailgate, and wondered if it's just a case of getting a really tight carpet glued/overlaid, and then re-using the existing clips ?

Re: Owner for 4 Weeks - bank balance taken a hit!
Hi Ripley
I used 4 way stretch carpet off E Bay
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-sqm-EASYLI ... 2749.l2649
Faux Suede available here - used on roof lining and original lower panel inserts
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUEDETRIM-Va ... 2749.l2649
All original clips removed and rivnuts fitted. I then used these to hold the panels in place
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/M6-7075-Alum ... 2749.l2649
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/m6-Aluminium ... 2749.l2649
The suede isn't as flexible as the 4 way stretch but fairly easy to fit. Spray the panel and the covering with the spray adhesive and let it become touch dry. Large panels are best done by two people, one holding it off the panel and the other gently pressing/contouring onto the panel. Bit like how they vinyl wrap.
Yes I covered the sliding door. On the top panel siliconed a 9mm ply panel in. Then cut another 9mm panel slightly larger. Covered in 4 way stretch and then used panel adhesive to bond that to the first 9mm panel.
On the tailgate the top panel is 4 way stretch and applied direct to the metal on the inside and then "tucked in" to the recess that runs round it.
Cheers
CALSCADDY

Hi @CALSCADDY
Thank you that's great
That's why I love this site, I've been mulling over how to fit the panel back in a decent way after carpeting, whilst not using the plasic fixings.
So will get some 6mm rivnuts and some of those black anodised ally fixings and Bingo
did you go for the 12mm, 16mm or 25mm long ones ?
Cheers
Dave

25mm - be careful when drilling out all the holes for the riv nuts - easy to hit the outside skin and you don’t want to do that. A good wrap around of insulation tape on the drill bit will act as a “stop”
