Re: Let the build begin
Salvaged a couple of OEM treble speakers a few weeks back but couldn’t fit them as my caddy didn’t have any wiring installed.
After downloading ELSAWin, printing off the wiring schematic for the speakers... hey presto, 2 working trebles
Temporary wiring done to try them out, will replace with better wiring and speakers, sometime....
Need to remove 10 years of grime too

@c chis
To fit the repeater indicators did you need to splice the wires I've just looked behind mine on a 2012 caddy and there's no connectors to unplug to connect new units
Thanks

Re: Let the build begin
Hi, I had to tap into the speaker wires at the quadlock connector, bit of a bodge at the moment, as I don’t have access to all my tools and connectors to make good connections.Barrington wrote:@c chis

Main aim was to see if the treble speakers would work
Once I get access to my lockup I’ll sort out the wires and install better treble speakers and a set of rear ones too. The RCD360 appears to support rear speakers!

Hi sorry for the confusion I was asking about the smoked repeater indicators you installed on earlier posts.

Re: Let the build begin
my bad and old age! I’ve a 2010 pre face lift. I removed the bulb holder and bulb, then removed the bulb. The indicators came with a male bulb fitting on them that just plugged into the existing bulb holder, I’ve just removed one to let you see how mines connected in and they are polarity sensitiveBarrington wrote:@c chis

Re: Let the build begin
Quiet day today, spent a bit of time filling the stone chips/scratches on the bonnet and then cutting the overfill back, finishing of with a bit of polish!
Very satisfying in every way!
Before
After
Bonnet done, just the rest of the van to do

Re: Let the build begin
Filled with a touch up pen? How did you cut them back?
Need to do mine.
Also have a scuff and small scratch on the back I need to do.
Mine will never look as good as a lot on here but I want it to look as good as possible so I’m not embarrassed if I ever meet any of you

Re: Let the build begin
Hi, yes, just a touch up pen. I over filled the scratch and let it dry.
I tried a couple of ways to cut back the excess paint...
1. After the paint had dried I “wiped” away a lot of the excess using a cork block with a microfibre cloth and a little methylated spirit to soften the paint, this worked well on the deep scratches and big stone chips, the smaller scratches need a much lighter touch or you’ll remove the touch up paint
2. Same block and microfibre cloth system with medium cutting compound/deep scratch T-cut, then fine cutting/polishing compound
Finished off with polish/wax and a buff up
As always, try it out on a small, not really seen bit in case the meths lifts your good paint off. I knew mines was good as I’d used the meths to remove the glue from my PDR a few days ago.
I used touch up paint because I had it on hand, however there is a system on the market called Chipex, that’s made to do the same as above but much quicker. It gets really good write ups. Here’s a link to YouTube with demos. I’ll be getting some of this to sort out the chips and scratches on my Rav4.

Aye, I thought the same, however not sure I want to chance the meths on my Rav.

Re: Let the build begin
Might try it on my bumpers as the paint on them is shot anyway. Maybe if it takes the paint off I’ll keep going until it’s all off
Can’t afford to get them sprayed at the moment so maybe not

Re: Let the build begin
Today’s small task to help relieve the lockdown monotony was..
Rear view mirror “delete”, well almost...
A quick search through previous posts made by others, a pair of pump pliers, some blades, some meths/tar remover and a bit of gentle heat from a blowtorch (the really scary bit )
And viola!!!
A total eclipse of the sun
All parts cleaned and set aside for when my van gets sold to fund my next, newer van
Also noticed that the windscreen is covered in small chips, so new windscreen now on the to do list!
