VR6 3.2 engine transplant begins from post 596..

ABP-Grinds air suspension begins from post 725…

Bought my caddy, a 2010 1.9TDI van a couple of weeks ago, good honest, well used “builders” van with a few small issues, namely...

Passenger sun visor broken
Front lights - both sets of clips burst
Front number plate badly cracked (bump by previous owner on a frosty morning) - now replaced
Bulkhead missing
Plywood panelling rattling
Drivers door hinge broken
Sliding door not opening
A few small dings and scrapes and a bash on the front wing
Spare wheel carrier seized
And I don’t think the cab had seen a cloth in 10 years

So...
Sun visor sorted with a wee clip


Carrier freed off and well lubed with copper grease(no photo’s)

Bulkhead refitted and carpeted, 4way stretch carpet is amazing!


The other half is now also complete
I’ve also done the top of the rear of the bulkhead leaving the bottom uncovered as I’m using my Caddy for daily use and carrying my bikes out of sight. Much easier to wipe down the plastic than trying to clean the carpet.


Fitted a nice bike holder to keep my bike nice and secure when driving, other side do do once the other bracket arrives.

And a 25 litre container for washing the bike after a ride ( using a worx battery powered washer) and carpeted the rear door panels too.

2 new metal window covers next


Still to do...
Carpet to replace with profiled rubber
Auto headlight switch to install
New radio (RCD 360) to install
Fire extinguisher and first aid kit
New wheels and tyres
Sliding door cover
Arm rest
Headlight brackets
Pull out the dent on the front wing
Sound deadening and a little insulation to install in the back
Roller shutter cupboards for storage
And the list goes on, and on, and on.....

Not trying to create show van, just make it look and feel comfortable and reasonably secure to stop folks pinching my bikes when I’m out and about.

Hi mate. Some nice mods coming along here. Have you noticed any difference in the cab after carpeting the bulkhead?

Hi, yeah, quite a bit quieter now I’ve carpeted both sides, however I’m comparing the noise level to when it was an open van, cab also heats up far quicker now that’s it’s about 1/3 of the size.

You can hold a normal conversation at 70(ish) without shouting and its beginning to sound more like a quiet car.

Planning to stick some of the DODO sound deadening and sound proofing on the cab roof and footwell bulkhead in a week or so, so it should get even quieter.

Started on the rear passenger side with the sound deadening

And sound proofing(deadening mat underneath the soundproofing foam)


Rained off this evening, plan to finish this tomorrow.

Yeahbive juat done the rear seat conversion on mine and I’m now sound deadening using dodo pads and cell foam sheets.. sounds like a different van.. keep it up fella

Finished off the passenger side rear, DODO sound deadening and closed cell insulation followed by a 50mm (ish) layer of insulation made from recycled plastic bottles.

Some insulation over the wheel arch

And finally, the second bike holder installed

Going to leave the sides uncovered for a few weeks until I’ve used the bike holders for a bit in case I need to tweak the layout.

Oh, and a quick lighting upgrade... LED festoon bulbs

Easy enough to fit the bike holder, the one there is the kind I wouldn't mind myself.

Hi, [mention]Minimalglitch [/mention]very easy, a little modification to the bar and 4 bolts, big washers and lock nuts.

You could fit it straight out of the box, however I removed about 100mm from the bar and turned it 90 degrees so that it would fold up out the way when not required and to give me more room between the bikes down the middle of the van

Not to steer away but how's the Worx washer?!

Hi [mention]Pieparker [/mention] the Worx Hydroshot washer is by far the best portable washer I’ve used! I’ve done the mobi thing, the pump/pressurise it old Skool thing, the bucket/plug in the lighter socket thing and the aqua2go thing, all pretty rubbish.

With the 20 litre water container I can clean 2-3 bikes easily.

I've got a £100 John Lewis voucher and I'm in need of some sort of washer but JL's range isn't all that... I might give the Amazon standard hose washer a go... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07TVBYDV2. I can't be arsed with the faff but a portable one did appeal to me... not a necessity though.

I can use the voucher on birthday presents I suppose...

Okay, so new textured rubber floor went in today, glued down and sealed along the sides. I managed to tuck the rear under the door sill keeping it nice and neat
