Re: Let the build begin continues with VR6 heart transplant
Finished off the brake calipers and fitted them today, Audi A3 Quattro rears, stripped, vapour blasted, new seals, covers, new brake pipes made and fitted all finished in candy orange.
Went with Brembo disc’s which have a nice finish to the centres and edges to hopefully reduce corrosion.
Bled and just about ready to refit the wheels
Never seen this before… yes, I know I need to get out more and stop buying economy disc’s
The sun makes them shine
What I started with off my old Audi donor car…

Also finished skinning my replacement inlet manifold, just waiting on new rocker cover bolts arriving before fitting!
Hoping to have it all fitted before the German Invasion at Crail this weekend

Nice work, that inlet manifold looks ace. Is that just with the kit? Haven’t had chance to play with mine yet.

Yeah, just the kit. Went for the larger kit as the small one was just a little too small.
It’s not perfect but it’s pretty good for a first attempt, I have a little bit of finishing to do as some of the epoxy has pooled (it’s still smooth though) and needs thinned down.

Re: Let the build begin continues with VR6 heart transplant
Mk4 wheel arches mod’d to fit my mk3 fitted today ahead of my trip the German Invasion at Crail tomorrow
The wing/bumper line is a little different and lower than the mk4 so I had to make a quick template from my wing/bumper interface
Some hot staples, plastic weld and bumper filler later and ready for some textured paint
1st coat on, ready to apply some more.
Arches on and R32 style side skirts offered up to check fit and alignment. Not fitted because I was running out of time to texture and bond them on, next weeks task!

Re: Let the build begin continues with VR6 heart transplant
Manifold installed… big blue looks a little out of place so…
Back to black and it looks a lot better!
Still a bit underwhelming though
Now just need to track down an engine cover for the sides and back!
And after a burst hose and a good soaking today it was time to stop swapping the hose between the pressure washer and garden hose back and forth, why did it take 2 years and a right good soaking to fit a tap adapter

I like the look of the stock air box. .
However, if you are wanting the Forge kit back on you can buy all the hoses individually in black, you just need to measure them up (or I imagine if you give them a ring they will know exactly which ones are right).

Re: Let the build begin continues with VR6 heart transplant
Lister79 me too! I thought about replacing the blue hoses with black ones however, I’m thinking about heading back down the OEM with slight tweaks route.
Happy that the engine still sounds lovely after taking my van out for a run this morning, the VR6 music can still be heard
Also the factory air box hides a lot of the standard VW wiring and gearbox connections down at the fuse panel. Just need to smarten/neaten up the power wires on the front of the box now.

It looks good with the oem air box.
But for me l love the forge air box.
I wanted the blue hoses but ended up with the black ones.
I did think about what lister said but they are not cheap.
But then again I don’t think anything is cheap when it comes to the caddy
You have done amazing work with this build and the attention to detail is awesome.
Keep up the good work

Cheers Sean!
Yeah, I’m liking the OEM look myself even if it is a bit quieter
And agreed, nothings cheap when it comes to the van. This all began with a set of alloy wheels with crossclimate tyres and then I stumbled across this forum!
You fancy a swap? I can bring the blue hoses with me down to Tatton park or I could post them down to you

Hi buddy
If you want to swap bring them down to tatton park.
Saves postage and it will be cheaper.
