I think the best option IS do a hybrid on your oem turbo.. now if you search a good company do very nice turbos... All plug and play

I don’t think you would get the same power as you would with a cr170 turbo

As for darkside I didn’t contact them to find out I think someone else contacted. Darkside offer a turbo at 175bhp.

I believe it is possible to swap out the 1.6 turbo for the 2.0 and then have it mapped.
This is what I’m attempting to do to mine (I’m not saying this is what you should do)
Genuine VW CR170 turbo (turned in to a hybrid)
Airtec intercooler
DPF and EGR delete alone with a remap
I’m hoping to get between 200-240 bhp

Looking at doing the mod on my 1.6tdi but before I buy a cr170 was wondering what sort of money it'll cost to get it tuned to stage 2 hybrid?

Love your build thread BTW, lost a few days of my life when I stumbled across it 😅

But I didn’t get mine from darkside. Darkside are excellent at what they do.
I just bought one from eBay a Genuine VW CR 170 part number 03L253010F. Cost me £140 second hand. I have now sent it off to KRS turbos to get a stage2 hybrid done to it. It will come back nearly brand new. They say it will prejudice between 220-240 bhp safely
Struggling to find the 2.0tdi turbo instead of doing the darkside turbo upgrade..

This thread was a real happy supprise! Just bought mine 1.6 TDI -2014 with only 6kkm on the clock. Initital thought is to go with tune 140bhp. But just by reading this thread, my horns  is getting bigger!
Thx for posting part numbers, thoughts, dos and don'ts.

So what you are saying is that the 1.6 TDI block is good for more than 200bhp without swaping anything? Just turbo and what not?

Is the EGR and dpf delete a no brainer even for 140 bhp tune?

Thanx! Happy to now be a part of a differnt mod community!
