Re: Caddy Maxi daily
Searching the forum here for some inspiration and wireless chargers in mk4s look superb but mk3s need some love too!
so here is my attempt at.
Main components. Charger is connected directly to fuse box. On when key's in
Why not gluing some wood
In desperate needed of a proper workshop
So far not too bad
Painting it to avoid moisture issues
And finally the adhesive wrap
Fitted and charging. Sorry 2AM the lighting was horible
Things to note:
It fits my Galaxy S10 with room to spare but bigger phones would not fit.
I might end up changing the colour/texture to match what's coming
Could be improved upon for sure (coin slot comes to mind)
I am waiting for wireless android auto module that will go to the glove-box. Therefore the need for a charger but a phone can always be charged in the glove-box if needed.
The USB port below is not connected now but plan is to connect it over USB hub 5G0035953D to have one phone for wired android/flash and one for the wireless dongle

A bit nicer photo incoming. I am surprised how hard it is to take a picture off even during the day. That's gotta be the tinted windows

Re: Caddy Maxi daily
I still have big plans with the interior but waiting to finish all the wiring first.
To name a few:
matching rear bumper on my tacking list right now. Then probably the front one too. I'd love to go full mk4 front-end but I do have limits to what I can consider somewhat reasonable expense.
To name a few:
- heated windscreen (maybe a bit late for this season)
- auto headlight switch
- led headlights
- auto wipers (just because it is included. Have that feature on my Avensis but don't think it is necessary in any way)
- maybe some interior light
- way later improved trunk light

Re: Caddy Maxi daily
Facelifting the rear bumper today.
Disassembling:
Removed the bumper, sersors and plastic brackets. brute force is probably the best way to handle the plastic rivets on these. 5 on each side and only damaged 2 or 3 of them.

2K5 807 394A
rivets to hold them 10x
N 038 550 1

First I wanted to remove the towing beam but the bolts wouldn't budge so I had to leave it in place and threat the rust there
Did a bit more than what's on the pictures but some of the deeper rust remained. Two coats of hammerite
And wrapping it up for today. It is quite cold outside when sun drops
Continue tomorrow

Re: Caddy Maxi daily
List of bits that got replaced mostly cause it was a bit crusty, otherwise Mk3 and Mk4 are the same here
Tow bar and bumper bar interface:
2x L shape securing brackets 2K0 803 981
2x hex bolts towards the tow bar N 019 530 8
2x hex bolts towards bumper bar N 019 530 7 + N 100 945 03
Bumper bar with bumper is connected with:
4x N 906 381 02 + 4x N 901 686 04
Fitted all that and here is the result. Forgot to take more photos in the heat of the battle:
In the end I could not connect parking sensors. loom was a bit too short probably the placement is a bit different on the new one and sensors are rotated 180 too. Hope to get the wiring sorted soon. Also added loading edge cover. It is supper dirty but that's for another day.

Tailgate preview:
some wiring bits are still missing and we got stuck on these rubber cable goose necks that aparently have different shape on facelift tailgate. Waiting for the correct ones to show up to be able to finish it off.

Re: Caddy Maxi daily
Proper pictures today
Fitted:
Mk4 Tailgate with all the required bits
Mk4 rear bumper
Front bumper Mk3 with sensors and the lights
Park assist unit to have front and rear sensors working
Heated windscreen - still need a button to turn it on/off as my AC panel does not do heated windscreen
Mk4 rain sensor with auto headlights and auto wipers
reverse camera in tailgate
Keeping the chrome stripes for now. Wanted full black first but this looks alright I guess
Tailgate window is original VW tinted. Took it as it looks a let better than having it tinted after but it is not the same 5% tint.
that rain sensor was a bit of a pain too. I wasn't doing it myself cause I generally don't touch wiring but the first sensor we tried did not work - not sure what car it was from but I guess the protocol changed. Had to find the same shape with older protocol 5K7 955 559 B and that worked like a charm.

Re: Caddy Maxi daily
Added some fifth door lights. I'll see how it works long term but the idea was to remove the side light there that is only blinding me.

Re: Caddy Maxi daily
I am using it for two weeks or so and so far it does what it should. Couple notes:
- Strangely work in one USB port only. Still looking into why
- Config on the phone was pretty straightforward
- When connecting with WIFI disabled it shows a notification that kinda freezes and gets killed in a moment. Then I can turn wifi on again and the head unit connects
- Takes about 20ish seconds to connect. Not an issue for me
- Not seen any speed issues or so but over the two weeks I had one or two disconnects while driving. Took maybe 3 seconds to reconnect
