Caddy Tax Class

Post by neilmcl »

Can anyone tell me what the correct tax class is for a 2013 C20 Life 1.6 Tdi?

The reason for asking is I need to change the current tax class from Disabled and I'm not sure whether it should be Diesel Car or Private Light Goods.

Thanks

My tax book hasn't come back yet for ours to be sure of the wording but the life is an M1 classification so treated as a van derived car for speed limits etc.

It's quite high tax cost too for a 1.6 which shocked me.

Can someone confirm what their V5c says under vehicle category for a C20 Life?

Mine is blank for some reason, I would've expected it to say M1. I'm having difficulties in getting the Post Office to change the tax class from Disabled and I'm wondering if this could be the issue.

Post office can't change the tax class only the dvla can. You have to write to the dvla and they will send you a new v5.

@Scoobysrt
That sounds right, there should be a section to complete on the V5 if your making changes, I'm near sure tax class is one.

Yes they can, they do it all the time. In fact I have an email from the DVLA telling me to go to the Post Office to so. The problem I've got is the Post Office system is failing to complete the final part and I'm wondering if there's some peculiarity with my vehicle's details.

From a good old Google yes the PO can do it, looks like its basically a change of owner procedure?

Maybe just your local post office isn't sure, I'd an argument with mine over my trade policy not staying any reg when I went to Tax a car before...

To be fair to @Scoobysrt and if we're being pedantic then yes the DVLA makes the tax class change but this can be initiated, well it's supposed to be able to be done, by the post office, which you need to do as you have to also get the car taxed correctly.

I could in theory just send the V5c off to the dvla with the changes noted but that might mean I won't be able to drive the vehicle in the meantime due to it no longer being taxed and knowing how long the dvla are taking at the moment that would be a big problem.

Trust me, I've been to a number of POs and the last one we spent a good half hour going through various scenarios to get their system to do it. They even called their own helpline and that didn't resolve the issue.

I've just got an email back from the dvla and they are saying the tax class should be PLG (Private Light Goods). Can anyone with a 2013 C20 Life confirm if this is correct on your V5?

I'm picking our purchase up at 2pm and I'll check. It's a 2012 1.6 maxi life C20.

Ok so mine was down as a health service vehicle and post office changed it over to diesel car with no issues at all.

Now I'm a new owner so not sure if that has anything to do with it.

For some reason the Post Office(s) I've been to can't get to the option of changing the class from disabled to something else. Looks like I've no choice but to send it all off to the DVLA and wait, god knows how long, until it gets processed by them instead.

Shows how much they (the DVLA CS agents) know, some were saying it should be Diesel Car class, others PLG, one said if it doesn't work as Diesel then do PLG instead, alright for him to say that but it's an increase of £110 if done as a PLG.

If it's a caddy life and has been from factory, I can't see how they can clarify it as a goods vehicle.
