Good afternoon all,

I have a VW Caddy Maxi (MK3) 2008-2015 Diesel 1.9TDI, which i wish to upgrade. I have a rough idea of what I want to do to start with but I could do with some advice from all you experts! The items i have in mind are...

1. Suspension
It is an ex BG van and as a result it has always been a bit bouncy as it was designed to have the extra weight, with all the kit in the back. with this in mind, my first task is to lower the suspension and make it feel more like a car. I don't want it to be excessively low so I'm not sure which size coils to buy? I have been advised that 40mm should suffice but any advice would be welcome

2. Wheels
I need some new wheels to go with it but wasn't sure of the size or type. Some decent black alloys would look great and i thought 17inch? Wasn't sure if I wanted low profile as I do a lot of mountain biking and am in very rough pitted car parks etc, not sure how long they would last.

3. Mapping
I've been advised to get it mapped also - better torque etc. I was advised option one will make a big difference - but i wasnt sure about prices etc or even if its healthy for the engine?

4. I want apple car play in there too as the CD player is knackered and I can only get Radio 4. Anyone recommend anything?

Thanks in advance - any advice related to prices or decent garages in the Nottingham / Midlands area would also be brilliant.

I would add some photos but it wont let me for some reason?

Cheers,

Steve

Hi Steve. Welcome to the forum.

I’ve got an ex gas van too, so I feel your pain with the bouncy monster truck thing Image
I had mine lowered using the STX coilover kit made by KW. It’s decent quality and the price wasn’t too bad either.
Another option is lowering springs upfront instead of coilovers.

As for wheels, I’m running 17s myself and the ride quality is fine (I want to upgrade to 18s in the future) Wheel specs are a bit of a minefield at first but if you use a website like willtheyfit.com that will help you a lot. Image

As for mapping, Dub Unit is highly recommended and lots of lads have used them, they’re not too far from you so definitely worth a call.

Hope that helps mate. Here’s mine lowered with 17s. There’s about 50mm arch to tyre gap on the front, and 60mm at the rear.

Hello buddy - sorry for the late response.

Thanks so much for all the information below, all very helpful and lots of numbers for me to try there.

Your van looks amazing - they can look really smart with a bit of investment, so I'll chip away at it bit by bit.

The body work to mine also requires some attention too, but I think I'll get it mapped, new coils and wheels and then hopefully I'll feel a difference while driving. I'll pay some further attention to the bodywork later on in the year.

Cheers mate!
