Started putting everything back together at the front of the caddy. I thought I would carpet the parcel shelf to better blend in with the back of the van once I finish that too, and to make the surface less reflective for sound quality purposes.

The 4 way stretch carpet did the trick very nicely.

I also put back the A piller trim after doing this and wow, I can see why others say they hate doing that too. You need to fit it into the bottom slots, align all the white press fit slots and get it around the rubber door trim and under the overlapping rubber. Took me ages on the passenger side, and then the drivers side was much quicker as I found a slight trick to installing it.

Maaad work mangrovejack.

I still have the floor to do with sound dampening material. Still trying to find out if Mk V GTI seats bolt in to the factory locations… then, perfect excuse to complete the sound dampening chore.

Don't you hate it when someone starts a build thread and never comes back to finish it? Yeah me too, so I'm going to be updating what's been happening the last few months shortly.

As I alluded to in an earlier post, last year we were selling our house and moving from Canberra to Brisbane, so between all that I didn't have much more time to work on the Caddy unfortunately, so things are going a little slow as I'm currently renovating some houses.

Ok, so continuing the sound deadening, insulation and thermo lining the rest of the van. In places I couldn't reach I used fire rated expanding foam.

I neglected to mention, before the previous stuff was done, all the wiring was done too. Most end up underneath the passenger (left) side seat as that is where all the electrical terminates.

Insulated the bonnet to keep engine noise out.

Roof panel and LED strip light install. This is the first part that has the aluminium channel for the lights which will then have thin foam installed and microsuede covering it. The top cover (made of plywood) will be covered in grey carpet. All of the wood has been coated with polyurethane for a bit of waterproofing in case of condensation.

Built the wheel well covers and additional storage in the back stock jack location to store the jack and tools. This has been properly sound deadened with foam as well to reduce any wheel well noise.

Next, made templates for the back side panels. Both sections where the rear side windows usually go have been filled with foam. Can you tell I like a totally quiet car?! Had my 3 nieces and nephews in the van the other day and they were screaming and carrying on and we couldn't hear them outside the van despite being right next to them.

Also added a bonus pic of the RGB LED light strips in action.

Another layer of thermoliner on top of the side panels and also inside the toolbox so I don't hear the tools rattling around.

It's proper carpet time! This stuff is great, the stretch is unbelievable.

Both wheel wells have a little cubby hole/storage area in front that are accessible via the side doors. One will be used for a fire extinguisher and fire blanket and the other is empty for now but can hold a fair bit too.

Installed and tested the variable fan speed controller. The idea is that at night when sleeping we can have the fans rotated towards the front of the car to keep air circulating and whilst stopped and cooking via the pullout drawer the fan can be flipped to stop smoke etc from enteringthe cabin.

Small update, installed new sound deadening on the scuttle panel. As most know they start going soft and deteriorate with age, this was cheap enough even with shipping from Europe.
