Toilet TFSI - Caddy4

Post by ToiletTFSI »

So having had the old nail for almost 12 years ( https://caddy2k.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5676 ) decided it’s about time to do another and make it a little more fun as it’s the daily driven.

It started with buying a caddy 4 base line, absolutely immaculate low mileage (28k) 2.0tdi. Far to low mile and clean for what I wanted to do.

So having sold that, for the price it sold for I bought this:
2017 caddy4 highline in grey with a great spec.

Bought it at auction knowing that I would be swapping the engine out for a tfsi.

The reason it was at auction…

You could just make out most of the old sign writing that was removed… guess at a few bits and finally made contact with the old owner. Turns out he hit a man hole cover that flipped and took out the sump and bent the subframe/arm metal. Turns out, he switched it off straight away and removed a fuse/relay so it couldn’t be started.

Sure enough, removed the old sump, bought a second hand one, change of oil and filter and it started straight up with no problems.

At this point I secured a low mile donor gti for everything needed for a tfsi swap. Heard it running and was happy enough as it was heading to Alex at AKS Tuning to be fully forged.

A few small jobs were needed such as PDR, removal of rear racking and a good clean in and out.

Also the lower sliding door roller was needed along with the Vw fix runner.

Whilst the engine is off at AKS, I decided to strip down the interior ready for the usual sound deadening and ready it for the loom alternations needed for the tfsi swap.

Lots of work being done to the engine at AKS Tuning. The sim is stage2 to run a healthy but very safe 360bhp.

BWA engine
CDL cams
Forged pistons and rods
K04 turbo
K04 injectors
200 bar fuel rail sensor
3 bar map sensor
VIS HPFP internals

Along with a few of his usual modifications like the deleted balance shaft pump.

Engine is rated to 600bhp not that it will ever be that.

Whilst all this was happening I was also collecting parts as and when they came up..

Wingbacks in great condition…

Plan is to colour code the backs to the exterior colour.

Wheels…

I first started with a set of Audi speed lines.
Bought them second hand that had been acid dipped… turned out they had been dipped for too long unbeknown to me and removed some metal. So the centres were loose in the barrel ever so slightly… making them unusable.
Will correct this at a later date.

So with these being dead… I decided to go for some 20” Oz Ultraleggra HLT’s. Keeping things nice and light.

Went for 20x8 as for plenty of room at the back of the wheel to the arch liner.

With the old subframe being damaged and steel I decided to go the full aluminium route. Again, keeping it lighter with the unsprung and semi unsprung weight.

For the front brake setup I wanted to keep it light. So went with VagBremTechnic’s lightest road setup - 4pot AP Racing Radical2 calipers with bell and rotor setup.

Onto the interior bits…

The usual mk7 gti steering wheel - opted for the wheel without cruise on it as I have always preferred it on the stalk…

Having seen the posts on here about the mk7 golf stalks mod… I didn’t think those stalks came with cruise… turns out they did on certain cars - thanks to Doc.

Having sent stalk master tech Giddy a pm, he agreed to work his magic again and reverse engineer them to see if it can work like the trip/wiper side. Looks like this is all doable and they are back with me having been converted! A little off being able to test them yet! Big thanks to Giddy for that one!
