My blank canvas has finally arrived. I’ll have to start with the rear lining…any suggestions on how I should approach it?

Nice, you gotta love a blank canvas.
What do you plan on using it for? Is the lining for aesthetics or to protect the inside?

Hi Doc, I'll have to use it for work so I was thinking ply(?) but I've seen a few vans online with material linings in particular Dan Chamber's Van on YubTub (YouTube) who did an excellent job with his...but I'm not sure how much time and cost is involved. The ply I could attempt, even though I've never done it before, I have all the necessary tools to do so.. It's gonna have tool boxes / cases and a small Waku Ladder, so I'd love to compartmentalise the rear..and I need to do it before I start scuffing the hell out of it.

Ply lining is great for protection but my pet hate is the holes left behind by all the self tapping screws used to hold it in.
Carpet lining is fantastic for keeping noise down, it soaks it up rather than have sounds echo around the hard surfaces. Trouble with carpet is the wear and dirt/dust.
If you can fit a decent floor using the original anchor points and saving on putting screws through the metal, that's a good base to start with. I did mine with one piece of 18mm MDF which was sealed and then topped with some vinyl flooring.
I've got some fixings to hold my Milwaukee packout boxes from sliding around, mounted on the floor and nothing on the walls.
All depends on how much room you need.

Completely agree about the holes. Yeah…that sounds like EXACTLY what I need to do.
After that I'm gonna fit a front splitter, side skirting and a rear diffuser (although I would love to find a place that sells pre-painted roof spoilers for a split door). There few and far between here in Ireland. There's a place in Kells that I'm hoping fits the parts they sell. I have a few trim bits ordered already and am looking at changing those seats. Good job I have an understanding boss, who'll let me do whatever I like with HIS van!

Just spent the hottest day of the year so far, outside framing what will eventually be shelved units in the rear. I took your advice btw and fitted the framing without screwing ANY screws into the metal work. It’s a completely free standing unit. ImageImage

Ok…so 7 months in and I’ve finally got the rear spoiler - bought it in October, tried spraying myself but didn’t like the way it turned out. Sanded it back to its original plastic and then got
Vytalus from Hillside Car Spray to work his magic!

Here’s a pic of the final product before I fit it.
I’ll post more pics when they’re on. Image

The more I see the higher spec ones the more I like them, particularly the front end and rear led lights.
Yours is one to keep an eye on

Agreed, but I think the front end does need a splitter to finalise it and the rear LED lights are a must! I'll post shortly the various upgrades I have done..I based the look off Highstone Motors versions of Mk5 Caddies, so I knew what I wanted it to look like , long before I ever received the van. :D

Funny enough that's what happened to me, it was a red highstone MK4 that made me really want one
I would probably think about a Mk5 myself if I hadn't spent silly money on mine already!
