Tale gate internal door opener

Has anyone fitted / is it even possible to fit an internal handle to open the tailgate from the inside?

A simple push switch has been used to open the tailgate. Simply splice wires into the release handle wiring - Operates in parallel with existing release button and won't work when the outer button won't.
