Key coding

Post by J9KUS »

Hi everyone,
I only have one remote key that used to work with the buttons for locking and unlocking, I since had the van battery disconnected and the remote has lost its coding. My question is, can I code it back in again for working via the remote by only using the one key?

Thanks in advance.

You will need VCDS or a similar coding system to adapt the remote to the vehicle again.

What van is it?

Pre 2016 models can be done with various methods one I find to work is to manually unlock the van using the key and sit inside.
Next, insert the physical key into the ignition, and turn the key to position two,
Lock the van using the lock/unlock switch on the inside of your door.
Press and hold the lock button with your VW Key fob still in the ignition.

When a red light begins to blink on your VW key fob, the pairing is complete and should restore your remote VW key fob functions.

There are ways to do mk4 specific models but see if the above works first.

I will give the manual method a go first. It's a 2012 model year.

Appreciate the help, will report back.

Thanks J.

Sorry if I'm hijacking this thread but I was wondering if a 3rd key could be coded for a 2007 Caddy. We have 3 people who regularly access the vehicle and it would be so convenient if each of us had a key. Possible or is there a 2 key limit? Thanks.

I can't remember the limit, I think it's 5 but coding a key is different to coding the fob functions.
To code a key for starting the van you need specialist equipment so look for your local auto locksmith.
