Re: My new caddy
Sure thing!
The stainless top strips for the side mouldings scuffed up and etch primed
dark gray primer for everything thats going black, doing all these and the roof in Skoda F9R black metallic
This door sucked to do
Quite sure this was the last of the mustard yellow now
Primed it thick, as its gonna need lots of blocking to not be wavy af
Done all the remaining small bits in non sanding primer
Made some new gaskets for the rear door hinges, once ive done all the seam sealing in that area the hinges are going back on, gotta put the doors on temporairly to align everything also
Passenger door seam sealed
the final paintjob is getting closer!

snuffegull I’m looking forward to seeing the final outcome of this, you’ve pretty much made a new van .
Quick question, have you ever painted a textured bumper and got good results?

Azz03 Thank you!
Yeah i have done textured bumpers many times. You need to sand off as much of the texture as possible, i usually start with 180 grit and work my way down to 320, then give it a light mist of plastic adhesion promoter, and a nice coat of high build primer.
Primer tend to shrink a bit as it cures, wich can reveal any remaining texture if you sand and paint it too quickly, so let it sit for at least a day or two to cure, before sanding it. I usually start sanding the primer with 320, and what grit to finish with depends on the color

Re: My new caddy
Today i blocked the roof, touched up a small dent i had missed, and gave it a coat of dark gray self leveling primer in preparation for painting it black
I had to send one of my wheels out to be straightened as it was a bit out of spec, got it back today. So i can start getting these ready for paint now also
Should start getting some final paint on at least a few bits tomorrow, fingers crossed!

Re: My new caddy
The very final stages of prep on most bits now!
And we started laying down some of the main body color today on the insides of all the doors, so color reveal time i guess! I'm super stoked about how this is turning out! Volvo 733 Sage green metallic, as found on current xc40/ex40's.

Re: My new caddy
Do you have that sensor behind the front badge? Was thinking of painting mines but unsure if it would be effected by paint.. paint work on this is cracking

Its usually not a good idea to paint a radar badge, can mess with it

Re: My new caddy
I've done quite a bit today, got all small parts ready for paint, all rigged up and ready to go, got the doors ready to be painted on the outside, and many other things, nothing really photogenic though.
painted the grille trim and the emblems, in what was supposed to be the OEM matte chrome-ish silver found on Pretoria wheels, but it wasnt quite the match i had hoped for. I have yet to decide if i should go ahead and paint the wheels this color aswell, and roll with it, or something else and redo these to match.
I sort of dig it even if its not exactly what i had envisioned.
definitely looks best with the newer style emblem with beveled edges in this color combo. I mocked this one up on the grille, and the size is basically bang on, so might even get another rear face lift badge and stick it on the front honestly

Re: My new caddy
snuffegull thanks for the info and tips I’ll definitely be using those when I tackle the textured mk4 bumper I have to paint.
Also absolutely loving the colour choice you’ve gone for don’t think I’ve ever seen that colour on a caddy, can’t wait to see it all finished and built back up. Are you facelifting it or keeping the preface lift personally I prefer the preface lift look as that’s what I have myself.
