Caddy Maxi 1.6 heater blower not working
Hello all!
I finally decided to get a Caddy to convert it to a camper. All good and done, found one, purchased it, after all the necessary checks... or so I thought.
I got home and it got cold so I put the heating on. But the heating stood silent. Poetic, I know. The blower is not working on any speed.
Checked the fuses. All good.
I bought a controller resistor and replaced it. Nothing.
Went and bought a new blower motor. Nothing.
Lights come up in the heating controls and I can hear the flaps moving.
I've put the motor on a 12v battery and it works fine.
My question, apart from why does the vans gods hate me, is where could the problem be? Should I buy a control unit? Btw, the AC lights come on when the the blower is on max, but still nothing.

Did you replace the big ugly green fuse that usually goes pop randomly?
I’ll try and find a link for one

Welcome to the forum.
I think it's better to perform a proper diagnostic check on the fan rather than go throwing more parts at it.
Check the control panel has the correct supply and it outputs to the fan for a start. Secondly, check for voltage (positive and ground) at the fan terminals.

What age is your Caddy ?
My Mk4
5 Pin Plug on the back of the control panel
Pin 5 - (Red/White?) is Power IN so should have +12V when IGN is ON
If it doesn't get +12V then the Fan doesn't spin !
Power is supplied from a Relay (or 2 in later MK4s with refrigerant R1234yf ) in the main relay area and fuses SC33 and SC14

Re: Caddy Maxi 1.6 heater blower not working
I have a 2012 caddy maxi, I will have to check that Monday. Going back to measure everything again. I hope it's not a dodgy wire at this point as I cannot be bothered to go searching for a knick in one. Can you please send a picture of that relay, please? I

Re: Caddy Maxi 1.6 heater blower not working
My wiring diagrams are for 2016 on so could be very different.
I think you may not have a relay.
Could be a straight feed from fuse SC33 - Need to check fuse.
First thing check you have +12V on Pin 5 (4.0mm wire Red/White on mine)
Wiring diagrams for your VIN are on erWin and they may help.
1 hr allows you time to download all diagrams for your VIN - Mine was 35 PDFs including 1x Vehicle Specific Information PDF for all the build PR Codes

Re: Caddy Maxi 1.6 heater blower not working
Thanks a lot! This is most helpful! I will put a multimeter on it and measure everything. I think fuse 33 is a 40A if I remember correctly. Hopefully I'll sort this out quickly as I really want to start on the conversion... and the insurance companies are a right pain in the dorsal fin.petrev wrote: ↑Sat Apr 15, 2023 9:03 pm My wiring diagrams are for 2016 on so could be very different.

PS: never owned a VW, diesel or a van in my life and this has it all

Re: Caddy Maxi 1.6 heater blower not working
Sorry Doc, just noticed the rest of your reply. I only have a general idea on what I'm doing and I usually measure everything. I tested the new parts from Euro car parts and they guys there have been really understanding and said to being everything back if they don't fix my problem. No codes come when I tested with a generic obd reader (no high hopes there anyways). I may have to put my hands on a laptop with VCDS, hopefully that will dig something up. Cheers!Doc wrote: ↑Sat Apr 15, 2023 8:17 am Welcome to the forum.

Hi Petrev
Was reading your post re erWin
How does one know your vin is in their database ...
I'm all the way I Australia so how could I be certain that my vin is in their database prior to signing up for a 1hr or 1day session ??
Seems very interesting

First - 1 day is too much time if you only have one van
Get an hour and then see if you need more later
VW make all the Caddys so they have all the VINs.
You can also view by vehicle type-year-engine-etc so you can look up Golfs and Tourans and such as well if you need to.
Very useful resource erWin

Re: Caddy Maxi 1.6 heater blower not working
I think u mentioned your download was 35pdf files
Can they all be accessed (in terms of sorting / selecting etc) and downloaded in the 1hr time slot ?
This only applies to original OEM yeah
If a wiring mod has been done to the car since mfrr it wouldn't have any record of that ?

Re: Caddy Maxi 1.6 heater blower not working
I managed 35 for my Caddy VIN and a few for a Passat in the hour.
You get a list and I opened each one in Adobe Acrobat and swiped the headline name and then saved to HDD using that name pasted in so I knew what each file was.
Looking at the PDFs afterwards I noticed that there are linked photos for lots of things. Clicking and saving all of them would take a while, but if I want any of them I will make a list and book a second hour ... I think that would work ?
It is original VW manufacturing only.
Some companies and dealers may be able to update the database with relevant PR Codes if an official upgrade is done, not sure ?
I think ODIS probably has a fit when any of our vans get attached to the mothership !
