Red van looks nice. What’s the plans for the white one?

Thanks
The red one will donor the bumpers and a few bits to the white one & then the white one is either having a tfsi or V6 transplant, sq audio system, plus it’ll be an inner London work van as well as hauling my mountain bikes, airsoft kit, oversized dog lol the usual things that have no place in a modified van

Sounds like it’s going to be an interesting build, especially the engine conversion part. I’ll be watching this one

I found some window plates in the garage so out came the tools
First up was painting the windows with acrylic glass paint (£9 from Hobbycraft)
I know I’ve got overspray but in my defence the doors are going to the body shop soon anyway
Marked out the mount points, fitted the rivnuts and isolated with felt pads
Rattles are unacceptable so everything gets isolated
Plates fitted…
and glass painted
While I was at it I whipped out the front quarter windows and gave them a coat. I’m doing pillar build’s anyway so they need blocking and I wanted a better solution than black vinyl wrap.

Looking good
How easy (and how to) remove the front quarter windows to paint them with this acrylic glass paint ??
I'm also thinking of a solution for the rear windows / security ...

To remove the front quarter windows, remove the A-Pillar trim and you’ll see the 3 7mm bolts holding the quarter window.
Just remove the bolts and the window with its surround comes out. The whole thing is one big piece so give it a good clean, mask it up and spray.
Be careful putting the pillar trim back because it touches the glass and it’ll scratch easily.
The only thing people struggle with is refitting the A-Pillar trims. If you watch the clips through the windscreen as you’re lining up the A-Pillar it’s a doddle

It’s good having friend who owns a windscreen fitting company
Today he fitted me a lovely heated MK4 screen and whilst at it he used Sika Primer on all the bonding areas…
Needless to say I immediately stole the dinky little bottle of wizard juice and once he’d gone I set about making up the extended RLS area as I didn’t fancy my chances sanding the oem stuff off.
It literally took less than 10 minutes to do and it much more aesthetically pleasing.
It’s not symmetrical because there’ll be a camera on the driver side and none of it will be visible from the inside.
Actually, everything that’s usually invisible is visible at the moment

Thanks for the info about the quarter windows
Might have to add that to my list of things to do / attempt
Btw things are coming along nicely for you
I think the word your looking for is "borrow" not stole
Wouldn't all these additions reduce your excess in the grand scheme of things as your less likely to have an accident with all the warning signs / bells and if you are involved in a crash then footage would be to your advantage (hopefully) ?

No worries, if you run into any problems gimme a shout
I wish they’d reduce the excess but doubt they ever would

Thanks Azz03 the screen was pretty easy as the MK4 heated screen drops straight in. For the wiring I've alreay removed my rear heated windows so I rerouted the wire to the back (heavy guage white wire in the passenger sill loom) out through the bulkhead behind the abs pump and up to the passenger scuttle panel. Then I made up a loom using the oem connections from VW and thats pretty much all there is to it.
All part numbers and a very comprehensive installation guide can be found on this thread from @tommyzooom

So a few weeks ago when the interior was out, I ran a bunch of extra cables and extensions for a very important testing phase…..my van is, and will always be, a daily driver work van. That always adds certain challenges but that’s a good thing in my mind, mostly because, in my opinion at least, modifying cars and vans is basically the art of turning our pieces of shit into lesser pieces of shit. Sometimes, it’s until it’s not a piece of shit anymore and that’s a bad thing because it’s transcended purpose. Anyway….I wanted my iPad in my dash to run satnav and tidal etc. Building the holder so the iPad is removable was the easy part….the aircon controller cables were extended so I could reposition it to various locations & drive it for a while to see what it was like to live with. Bottom line is the aircon controller is now going to live in place of the ashtray, the hazard button is a vw sharan jobbie in the console switch panel, the centre vents are history and the iPad has centre stage. I’ve replaced the leds in the W8 interior light with more of a pin spot led aimed at the ipad light sensor so the iPad brightness reacts to the vehicle lighting before it reacts to ambient light.
I’ve covered 1200 miles in this configuration and it works perfectly
I have a second dash and console in the garage I’ll be doing the fabrication work on so this will be back to factory by Monday
