I have a Golf cluster in my Touran.

All I had to do was change the case and solder on the tactile switches for the Touran cluster - the tracks and everything are there, just needs tactile switches with a long button - I brought them from RS.

Then the Touran "stalks" will work. You need 3 switches - one for the push button and 2 for the turn button.

I can't quite picture how it looks in my head any more, but it only took a few minutes with the innards out of the housings, to solder them in with a very fine tip in the small gap.

I just had a think - I think the right stalk thing goes straight in (clips through the board and has a carbon pad on it) and the switches are just for the left side turny one

Well after getting another couple of projects that required my immediate attention over the last few weeks, i finally got back to the caddy conversion, it worked well pottering on other projects because its been raining for the last few weeks as well

I moved the eos out of the swamp back onto concrete where I could set about removing the climate control and dash bar to give free access to the wiring loom- and then I set about breaking out the DSG loom segment I need to move to the caddy and also tagged ad much else as I could there- as I'm starting to do the research into my wiring doco to see how I can retrofit the climatronic into the caddy.

I also spent a bit of time moving the eos pedals into the caddy just to see some tangible progress

Interestingly, the core of the eos pedal was 2mm longer than the caddy one, but took all the same inserts for the caddy, including the brake light switch plastic.

Also a massive shout out to Mark (also an Aussie member and an absolute legend for answering my dumb questions) who helped me with a replacement alternator for the TFSI as mines had a Towbar through in (original eos damage)!

Next up is chasing those wires out of the DSG loom- I've pulled it back to the firewall, so now just need to bring it through.

I also need to give the caddy the same treatment, but need to determine what cables I need to run in the loom so that once I put the climate control back in that its all situated and I don't need to run or chase anymore cables through.

I have to say I think I'm in the middle of the daunting bit, but logic is, one pin at a time, do the research and develop proper diagrams to follow myself to repin and adapt and we should come out the other side- I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking it, and others are thinking it's taking me forever, but ill just potter through, as every 5 minute job is one less I don't have to do later, do it once do it right! I can see the vision on the other side, once it's done it will be worth it!

Nice work

Cool addition to the van today- picked up some new style tail-lights- repinning to take place over the weekend, but what a facelift!

Picked them up from the local wrecker, came with the wiring pigtails so I could get the wiring pinout if I needed to. Was only $250 for the pair which is kind of on par, wasn't a steal wasn't too rich.

Looking forward to getting it to the point I can power them up and test them! They look fantastic and should facelift the caddy nicely, now looking for a facelift rear bumper too.

Been a bit since I got anything done on the caddy, unfortunately had a few hiccups with my other cars which took extra attention.

So today finally got something done for the first time in a while, I finally popped the nrw timing belt into thr BWA engine, discovered the old water pump leaking too, so at the same time we popped a new pump in.

Next I think we will pop the engine into the engine bay just to get it out of the way, then ill hopefully get back to the wiring side which is honestly the trickiest bit of the whole thing regarding motivation, we will get there though, one job at a time, every 5 minute job gets you closer.

Today's progress was a little more exciting than it has been for a while!

We decided to pop the BWA engine into the caddy today, its been getting in the way on the trolley so what better place than in it's new home!

Still a lot more wiring to be done, but I was surprised how much access to wiring I actually had once the engine was back in.

Also spent a bit of time splicing the eos exhaust back into the caddy slip joint, so that as a stop-gap temporary exhaust srtup it has something that will pass registration here in Australia, plus doesnt deafen us when we first get it started. Don't mind my welding, I unfortunatelt never had the opportunity at school to learn how to weld, and its not common I have to, so whilst not a great weld it will do for now

Next steps are fairly basic, reinstalling some of the ancilliaries such as the driveshafts, more wiring work, install the modified downpipe, and plug in the O2 sensors given the wiring for that is mostly complete.

Also discovered that there are a lot of shared parts on these platforms, such as the AC condenser is the same between the eos and caddy, the intercooler is also the same, but unfortunately it is full of crud from the diesels engine blow-up. So new intercooler has been ordered and whilst we needed a radiator we discovered thst our Golf R racecar shares the same rad config, so we will use the original rad from the racecar in it to save buying another!

This week was an interesting one- a few weeks back I made an offer on a Jetta with a BWA that was blown up- it was declined at that time, but earlier this week they came back to me and said I could take it for that price- so I went and picked it up- only reason I wanted it was because it had an R32 DSG wheel in it, and a carbon cold air intake (as the pics show). Upon getting it home and investigating, the car also has a shedload of BWA upgrade parts and VW platform parts that ill likely pop into the caddy where applicable. What i discovered (including what was mentioned) in this car is genuine Oz racing wheels, eibach lowering springs, new Sachs shocks, whiteline caster bushes, braided brake lines, whiteline 3 way adjustable rear swaybar, 3 inch downpipe with mid pipe (seems to be a good brand), the cold air intake, r32 dsg steering wheel, APR high pressure fuel pump, Poly engine mounts and the R32 DSG steering wheel.

So now I've covered that- now onto my progress on the caddy!
I spent a bit of time today ticking a few things off the list, I got the modified stock downpipe installed (only for registration purposes, it will get the downpipe from the Jetta once registered)- driveshafts installed, suspension bolted back together, high pressure fuel pump cam follower replaced, and fitting the exhaust gas temp sensors.
I also spent a bit of time trying to tidy up the oz wheels and popped them on so they are tucked out of the way. And fitted whatever rims I had hanging around on the jetta

This week's task is pulling the fuel tank from the caddy, and see if I can get a petrol tank to replace it.

Few odd jobs this week

When I previously started with the donor eos the wheel didn't have flappy paddles for the DSG- thankfully with the new Jetta had an R32 DSG wheel with the flappy paddles and the swcm to match as well.
So whipped that out of the jetta this week, and will pop it into the Caddy this coming week

The more entertaining thing is, finding a petrol fuel tank, what a drag...

I've spent the last week looking for a petrol fuel tank with pump and hanger etc. Also tried to get the lines but just as much trouble...

So I rang and messaged approximately 20 wreckers in new south Wales, and got told time and time again that they couldn't help me- in the end most of the wreckers are stripping the cars and only keeping what they believe they can sell and unfortunately fuel tanks aren't a common sell.
I was also told by one that they are puncturing the fuel tanks with a screwdriver to drain the tanks.
I finally found a tank 4 hours away, so today's task was going and picking it up to keep the project rolling. Unfortunately the wreckers can't provide the fuel lines, so I think ill probably end up doing some AN lines from the filter onwards to get the fuel happening.

Next task is dropping the diesel tank out, checking the pump in the new petrol tank and comparing to the eos pump, and replacing it if needs be, then popping into the caddy.

Couple of hours of tinkering in the shed last night.

Old Diesel tank removed - what a nightmare to get out, also discovered it was 3/4 full as well whilst it was half way out

Tinkered a bit at the front of the van too popping the expansion tank back in and the charcoal cannister for the fuel system. Now working through the line situation given I can't get any petrol lines, so will likely do a custom AN line to join back to the join point on the diesel lines halfway up the cabin to head back to the tank. The petrol tank is also missing the tank vent/return going to the front, so just figuring out how ill tidy that up and install one.

Last thing I got through last night was prepping the rad pack- the caddy rad pack had the wrong radiator and the intercooler was a bit mank, so had a new intercooler ordered, so installed that, keeping the original AC condenser, and needed to swap the rad, thankfully our 6R racecar is running a PWR rad and we had the old rad on the shelf from it which matches the BWA TFSI as well, it was near perfect, so popped that right in, and kept the rad pack fan from the caddy as well because the eos fans were damaged.

Plan to do a bit more on Saturday, so if the weather is good I might finally get the DSG Wiring I need out of the EOS, and I need to get the fuel pump controller and organise the wiring for it too.
