XZN Torx or ?????
Hi All
What are the torx head screws that are so popular on these Caddys
Are they called a XZN Torx head or XZN Spline or what ?
I was speaking to a guy and he called them a square torx ....
for example, these are the ones to remove the side rails etc
can anyone give me a definitive
A link to them would be amazing
cheers

XZN Torx or ?????
Torx bits are a 6 pointed star shape - large majority of vw bolts

XZN or triple square are 12 pointed - mainly seatbelts, seat bases and steering wheel bolts I think

but there are similar sockets called spline and they are both slightly different.

Re: XZN Torx or ?????
so if I am right in my thinking (and thank you for the pictures and explanations)
the 2nd pic of the triple square / XZN are the tricky little buggers like the side rail cover screws
are there a set size that are used on these caddy
I am thinking to buy a set but dont want to buy a whole lot that wont be used if that makes sense
what are the common sizes if there is such a thing ?

The caddy uses a lot of splines, there are a few sizes it commonly uses but I can't tell you off the top of my head for sure but at a guess 6mm, 8mm, 12mm and 16mm.
You will mostly find female spline bolts and most also have hex nut outsides but there are also male splines which need a spline socket which aren't as common to get hold of.
Unless you're going in for engine, gearbox, drive shafts, flywheels etc removal and stripping you won't really need them so often.
A cheap set from somewhere like proline/burgen will be good enough.

Bahnie& Scoobs
That looks like the ducks
Will research into similar
I guess the more typical sizes is all I need - not intending to do engine rebuilds lol
Just simple things like remove trim, side rails, the odd bolt here n there so it would be handy to have a set to do such simple tasks
Cheers lads

Internal trim etc will be Phillips or pozidrive, outside trim like wheel arch liners is torx, mechanical bits like drive shafts are splines.
Just get a decent security screwdriver bit set that has torx and you'll be fine. If you ever need to have a spline just borrow one or buy a set if needed. I suggest you won't get to the point of needing a spline set.

I went to remove the side rails of a donor at the scrapers a few weeks ago n I needed one of those XZN / Triple Squares so I was thinking surely I'm going to need other sizes for other jobs ....
Not many ppl know of them here in Australia, well not readily available for that matter at the main auto stores

XZN Torx or ?????
Screw bit little used in the automotive industry.
Type XZN (no Torx) in size 5 for the rail cover.
If you want to disassemble your steering wheel, you will need this type of tip but in size 12.

Re: XZN Torx or ?????
If I remember correctly, you'll need an XZN for the injector clamps too, although I can't remember what size.

Re: XZN Torx or ?????
I recently had to buy a few of these spline bits for various jobs on the Caddy. Here are the sizes, in case this is relevant to others as well:
- M12 for removing the steering wheel (a T50 also fits);
- M10 for removing the 2nd row seats and front seats on rails;
- M8 for undoing the boot lid lock.

Re: XZN Torx or ?????
Many thanks to the info supplied here.
I have been able to solve a problem of a sliding door not closing properly. The upper arm bracket thingy was loose; the correct size XZN, 3 square or spline bolt is M8.
I bought this set n the basis that one bit on it's own was less likely to get lost in a boxed set then loose in the toolbox,

This might help others in the future.
