I noticed the lower engine mount / subframe bush / dog bone bush / whatever else it may be called had a lot of cracks in it when I was under the van investigating after experiencing some knocking and engine slop and I wanted to replace it along with other engine mounts. My initial plan was to buy a second hand steel subframe to fit a new bush too then simply swap it over but when I saw the price of alloy subframes I got carried away. I now have a caddy alloy subframe with B6 Passat alloy arms and golf mk5 rear bushes (these are different to the Passat rear bushes as I discovered) along with new subframe bush and poly bushed arms. The subframe bush was a bitch of a job and after a few hours of trying different methods, presses, and running out of swear words, I broke the bush. Bought a new bush and the cheapest tool on ebay after looking at others and the bush went in easy in 20 minutes or less. I used a bottom bracket press for a bike with a load of spacers and washers to fit the poly bushes to the passat console bushes so I was very pleased that my new cheap-O tool worked to refit the bushes to the golf console without any hackery, reckon it's paid for itself now and I'll probably modify it when I poly bush the leaf springs down the line to eek every bit of worth out of it. And before I'm called out I do have new bolts for the subframe and everything else associated with it. Now waiting until some time off in March to get this lot fitted

Visited a friend who'd decided to crash his Polo and got a few little bits off it before it went to scrap heap heaven. Wheel bolt covers, wiper nut caps, shock top mount caps, and a trim nut I've been missing. But the most satisfying of all was the plugs to fill the seat height adjustment handle

Hi mate great build you have going on there
Have you managed to fit your arms and sub frame yet ??
I put mine on and it doesn’t seem right
I had to wind out my track rod ends to the point where it seams not enough threads to be safe to drive (even just to get it set up and tracked)

I haven't yet, that's this weeks job I'll update this thread if I encounter any issues doing it

Ta mate hope it all goes ok for you
I have been though part numbers and cross referencing between mk5 gti and caddy even down to trackrod end part numbers and dimensions in case these have been fitted wrong at some point in the past
A good start this afternoon, steel subframe out, alloy subframe built up with new arb bushes and ball joints ready to go in. As I had easy access to everything and the arch liners out I took the opportunity to clean everything I could up as well and whack a bit of sound deadening on the insides of the front wings

Subframe back in with a deadset kit by Dinger Developments. Having read about the dreaded subframe creaks, and the fact that I was replacing the subframe to get rid of unwanted noises, I didn't want to take any chances.
Polybushed the leaf springs using my diy bearing press with a tube and it worked a treat, still a bastard to do and took all day but made the job a whole lot easier than hammering them out. Also treated the van to a Whiteline rear anti roll bar. Did the ol' string alignment, and although the tracking isn't perfect, after a test drive this has all made a world of difference to how the van handles. The reduction in body roll is phenomenal and the suspension feels like it performs much more effectively, definitely glad I did this and after a proper alignment I'm sure it'll be even better!

What bulbs are you using with the headlight ? Mines are horrific at night. And when i select side lights nothing come s on except the drl’s
I fitted osram cool blue intense bulbs. They made a difference but there's definitely brighter options, I wanted the colour to match the led strip really. Turning to the side lights will only ever light up the DRLs (dimmer than in daytime use) and the rear lights

Already moved onto another mod having only just got the suspension sorted. Suede covered the A pillars because more!
Because these are such an awkward shape to wrap I've actually ended up cutting them in two. There's now a join between the vertical piece nearest the door and the piece against the windscreen, with the suede the join is barely noticeable. It makes fitting a breeze too, if you've fitted the A pillar trims before you know they can be a real pain. There's only movement between the pieces if you push on the lower one but it's held securely otherwise

Inspired by the Giotec Caddy I've gone for the smooth fuse box panel look. Plastic welded the handle up and smoother it, removed all unnecessary clips and the ridges from the back side and carpeted it. Looks so much cleaner now
