Maxi - Not a Show Van

Post by Be4ny13 »

Thought I'd stop lurking and share my caddy with you lot, so here goes!
This is my silver 1.6tdi Maxi Kombi that I've had for 5 years and over that time have turned it from my ex-crew cab work van into my "car"

Exterior:
Bumpers, side strips, door handles and mirror covers colour coded
Lowered 40mm and on 16" MSW alloys to keep comfort and practicality (Roads are shocking where I live and I'm often driving unpaved roads)
Bilstein B8 rear dampers
Wind deflectors
Black side bars
Black roof bars
ABS Splitter (3rd one now so will go for TRC when this one dies)
Dual exit exhaust back box 'delete' just for looks
Rear wiper delete (blanked with bicycle top cap)

Interior:
Touran carpets
Touran door cards (faux suede and grey sticth leather)
Touran centre console with grey stitch leather cover
Grey stitch leather gear gaiter and handbrake cover
Grey stitch Ezee parts seat covers for all 5 seats
Select suede panels (to hide scratches holes etc.)
Anthracite carpet in rear and roof
Vibe Speaker upgrade in doors, dash tweeters, and 6x9 speakers built into roof behind rear seats
Amazon special touch screen radio
Multi function steering wheel with cruise control on stalk
Footwell and door pocket lights from Stanthecaddyman
Black A pillars (will be doing the rest of the beige plastic soon with a suede headliner)

That's all I can think of off the top of my head but I'm happy to answer any questions you have and will try to update this thread as I go!

The photos are all from various different times so continuity is out the window Image

Got hold of a mk3 dashboard stowage / storage box for a price too good pass up. Cleaned and fitted it last night, adds to the dash nicelyImage

Thanks! It's taken on Wales and recently the Lake District, as long as you're not racing it's great to drive there

Slow day at work so I've been through my camera roll and organised all the caddy photos into a folder so they're easier to find and will upload a few progress photos from over the years. First off it's nice to see the difference from the day I got the van to now, doesn't feel like it's too different but looks otherwiseImageImage

First thing I did was sound deadening behind and ply lining with carpet, I'm looking to redo the carpet soon as it is sagging a bit nowImageImageImage

Next up was new wheels and starting to make the van a little less poverty spec Image Front bumper painted, splitter fitted, black badges and lights tinted to cover the scratched lenses. The tint has since been removed and I've polished the lenses up much better, still scratched but less worseImageImage

First holiday in the caddy was down to the Isle of Wight. I was the luggage carrier for my friend who was in his classic mini. I realise I missed the fact the van has roof bars and painted mirror covers now, I did so many things over a short period that I didn't take photos all the time. Just enjoy the photos! ImageImage

After a holiday I realised there were a few things I wanted and needed. Upgraded stereo, Amazon special, does the job, nothing fancy, along with Vibe door speakers. The net on the roof works great for stuffing loose clothing and is often used to hold helmets when I go cyclingImageImage

The van went without much done to it for a while except a few little touches, chrome door handle, pedal covers, over little bits. I was just enjoying using it, this was and is my first car / van so being free was enough fun for me... I'd probably emptied my bank account by this point tooImageImage

Then the pandemic hit the world and I found myself at home a lot. Started by painting the front badge insert and gloss blacked the lower grille. That was done with a rattle can and has held well for the last 3 years but does want repainting nowImageImageImage

Something I'd been wanting to do since getting the caddy was to lower it. Enough to close the arch gap but keep it practical. Now with loads of time and the caddy sat on the drive relieved of its daily duties I bit the bullet. Eibach 40mm springs and axle flipped the van now sat, and handled, much better. This also gave me an excuse to drive slowly as friends often said I was too steady. Hey I'm guilty of enjoying a cruise! The slower I drive the longer I get to drive too ImageImageImage

Now I'd got the outside looking good I moved inside. Touran ratchet armrest recovered with grey stitch leather ( the grey stitch has become a bit of a theme with this build )ImageImage

After looking at options for new seats to get rid of general wear and stains I settled on keeping the original seats. I don't find them uncomfortable so why change, and I'd also want the rear seats to match. Looked at retrimming the existing seats or getting covers and settled on the Ezee parts fitted seat covers ( with grey stitching ), they look the part, although the R logo is a bit OTT, and I can't complain about them otherwise. Removed the front seats to fit them and took the opportunity to clean out the inside and fit the touran armrest I'd gotImageImageImage
