Well that haldex is certainly working well, as for engine weight does it really matter when it sounds so bloody glorious.

Once I’ve finished testing the haldex setup and finished tidying up some bits and pieces esp coding etc it’s time for More power I’ve decided. Especially now we’ve got the traction… Going to pull the engine and put a head spacer in. ARP big end bolts, new bearings, ARP head studs, change The charger pulleys, 550 injectors introduction of a charge cooler and off to stealth racing for another live remap.
Oh and as previously learnt from the Nürburgring fit the oil cooler I have in the box still
it doesn’t get hot on the road only track so not urgent but still another job to do.
I’m also starting to think about tailgates!!

You and I and everybody else know you won't be able to contain yourself very longPineapple1984 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 7:14 am I can go for a later dq250 ideally out of a TT 3.2
(Likely had an easier life than an r32) they bolt straight in. But what really want to
Do is fit a DQ500 out of an rs3 but this will need an adapter and change of drive shafts etc so il probably hold fire on that at the moment.

@Weylin_mordigan. Funny you say that. That’s exactly what they keep saying at work
. I could also put a Dq381 out of a golf R. Probably easier , would bolt straight in and would give me 7 gears…. But where’s the fun in that.

Re: 3.2 v6 DSG Supercharged 4X4 Multi link Conversion

So after my previous remap it was noted that the standard injectors above 6500rpm were struggling to keep up and was starting to lean off ever so slightly(so I was warned) well with some spirited high rpm driving and some negative air temps (denser air) they really did lean off and melted the ends off cylinder 5 and 6 plugs… oops
New set of plugs and she’s running fine so hopefully not melted any pistons. I’m pulling it apart end of this week anyway to put the spacer in so we will see then! If not it’s forged rods and piston time ha will it ever end???!!

Heads now off. Il be fitting a 2mm spacer between 2 head gaskets to lower the compression ratio. Spoke with the very helpful guys at Stealth racing and they seem to suggest this is the best way of getting a good seal. Contemplated a set of low comp pistons but it’s a massive cost in comparison so il see how this pans out. Not a massive job getting these old VR’s apart in comparison with newer cars.Pineapple1984 wrote:

I'm starting to fall in love with the VR6 engine. I would really much fancy an engine build of my own now. Altough I might need to wait until I've upped my garage and storing possibilities. Thank you for the inspiration!Pineapple1984 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2025 8:53 pm Heads now off. Il be fitting a 2mm spacer between 2 head gaskets to lower the compression ratio. @Poffe - Great to hear I’ve inspired you. You don’t see many vr6 projects nowadays. Not when you can by a golf R off the shelf, shove a remap up it’s arse and get 400+ Bhp. Not that I have anything against a remapped R it’s a technical master piece lighter, better on fuel, more responsive etc etc and I’m actually a massive fan. I just like something a little more characteristic. The old Vr is a dated engine but you just don’t see anything or hear anything like them. Don’t forget we wouldn’t have a Bugatti veyron with a w16 if it wasn’t for the vr6 concept and sadly that is only likely to get worse!!! The thought of some of these projects can seem daunting at the start but as I’ve found, even on the evenings when I’m cold and bored I try and do something to keep the project moving. Wherever it’s researching on the web or cleaning up a cylinder head whilst waiting for parts It all adds up and suddenly before you know it it all comes together and to look back and think yep that is all our hard work and it’s actually pretty bloody cool …… Perseverance is key….. Even when someone comes in to the workshop and says.. why it’s just a Van?? “Yeah well your never understand, go and buy a golf R”
.sorry for the ramble haha

Yes, the newer tsi lumps are more frugal and more power from the get go. You just can’t beat the driving experience of a vr. If you don’t mind stopping at every fuel pump then the vr is hands down better in my eyesPineapple1984 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 9:38 pm @Poffe - Great to hear I’ve inspired you. @Ryan3633 - ah yes. 14.9 mpg average last time I checked on mine. The Achilles heal of the vr6 no doubt the nail in the coffin in production terms. Thats some average spirited driving though that also melted my spark plugs !! When I went to the Nürburgring I got up to 29mpg!!! then I got there and It went down……a lot.. That’s likely to get worse when I wind the power up too ha ha still not as bad as my e60 m5 v10. Everything seems fruggle compared to that B@&!&£d
