It has plastic insulation in it instead of wool under carpeted panels, to avoid mold I've been told.
Well, cotton in the insulation is to be avoided for sure. Heard of some body using untreated wool in hard to reach places.
But yeah, polyester/ plastic is preferred. Material that doesn’t soak in water basically.

Thanks Ryan! I agree. I did look at fairly new cars for inspiration, and it seems like black roof and pillars are the latest style.
Are you thinking of painting yours or retrim it?

In my Octavia vrs all the plastics are black (grab handles, sun visors etc) or trimmed in a black fabric. I really like both ideas so I’d like to do smaller plastic items painted but pillar trims and the large above storage compartment trimmed in a fabric. Although I’m not to sure what yet

Of course! Im happy to share what Ive used so far!

Directly agains the body, where there has been a single metal sheet I've used first 2mm SilentCoat sheets (2mm butyl, self adhesive and aluminium top layer). Made a world of difference in the doors, flooring and wheel houses. I even used it on the roof and sides of the cargo area. I completely covered all the single panels with it.
https://www.silentcoat.co.uk/collection ... dening-mat

The I used 10mm EPDM (closed cell foam rubber). Ordered from AliExpress.
This I have covered the areas where the space is a little more limited, like in the cabin doors, flooring (both in the cargo area, but also under the mats in the cabin), A-pillars, Cabin roof etc.

For the sliding doors, the cargo roof area, side panels in the cargo space and the rear tail gate i used polyester insulation, made from recycled polyester. Might have choosen a little bit too thick material. Had to half the thinkness at some areas to make it fit.

Then covered it with bubble foil fastened with aluminium tape.

Nice one. Thanks for posting that.
I have most of the sound deadening done already, but I'll definitely have a look at the foam insulation.

Cheers and great work on the van so far 👍🏻

Yes, I had smaller items painted black and matt clear coated. Turned out quite alright. I think Dan Chambers on youtube used something other than Alcantara/Suade on his latest Caddy build. It was a black fabric that looked pretty good. Maybe worth checking out?

Let me know how it turns out! What other plans do you have for the van?
Thank you!

I’ve just had the touran seat conversion done today so I’ll be ordering all the bits this week to get cracking with the interior. Dan chambers has been great with his videos, I’d love to copy his halo roof he did in his previous caddy. I’ve seen some really nice materials I might try as well.

I should have asked before, but how much of that foam insulation did you need to do all the work on your van?

I haven't done anything lately, but hopefully I'll be doing the sound deadening work in the front, replacing worn door seals, and replacing the door speakers once I get a chance.

I checked how rolls of 2000x500x10mm Foam I've ordered. Seems like I've ordered 13 rolls. I think I have one or two left over. But I also used recycled polyester in the sliding doors (I have 2 sliding doors), tailgate and cargo roof area instead of foam. So, you'll probably need around 13-14 rolls depending on if your better at economize with it than I am and if you are planing to use some polyester or not.

Except replacing a rear brake caliper and a worn auxiliary belt in order to pass the inspection, I to havent done much lately. What speakers are you going for?

Since the Caddy have reached a respectable age of 13,5 years, I decided that it was time to change water pump and timing belt. 78000km on the clock so far

New front springs and shocks from Bilstein. Thought about it long and hard if I were to lower the van in process or not. But ultimately decided not to since flipping the rear axle might affect the loading and trailing capabilities and therefore future use.

Bilstein B4 shocks and springs fitted. Happy with the feeling of them. Slightly harder than before.
Had to change out a lot of the screws that were rusty and/or had to be cut or broke during removal.

New steering tie rods and sway bar tie rods fitted as well. Thought I did a good job fitting them, but not good enough since the car now pulls to the left. So, next up is a new wheel alignment.Image

Hello mate and thanks for the welcome.

By spec I guess you mean the basic van as I bought it. It’s an ex British Gas van so the classic blue maxi, 1.6tdi and it’s the 102bhp but I’m not sure what the difference in engines is to make it that and it’s got about 115,000 miles on it. Ie had to do a fair bit to it engine wise as it was sold to me with more than a few white lies. But that’s my fault for not doing a proper check. I would like to change into a day van. Want to be able to still put stuff in it like bikes, motorbike, do skip runs. But also have it comfortable enough to use as a sleeping area when out walking and doing hills with my dog. A put a thread up asking about hammocks and peoples ideas on how to attached and where.

So far I’ve pulled out and trimmed now the bulk head sides ready to be carpeted, I’ve done some sound deadening and insulation but not sure I’ve done the best job looking at some of the amazing work done here. And I’ve made a 12mm ply deck and a 6mm ply roof but think I will have to make the roof again as struggling to get it to lock in to the original roof hopes.
