Reverse camera retrofit …. 2016 caddy

Post by emmD »

Looking to fit a reversing camera into my 2016 Caddy maxi… want to keep the OG factory head unit ideally and save some cash…

Saw something on here about what products to buy but now can’t find the post. Would appreciate any info!!

I fitted a wolfbox unit from Amazon. was 100ish quid. has a rearview mirror mounted screen. works really well.

alternative you can get the cheap camera and suitable composite cable into the head unit (provided it supports the reverse camera). the aftermarket cameras and screens tend to be better tho

Hi, not sure what caddy rear doors you have, but if you go to vagtec site they sell the genuine reverse camera and wiring harness that is compatible with your factory headunit.
I went for the tailgate one for my particular van.
Was around £280 delivered.
Will need coding.
I've recorded this in my build thread.

hi, i fited to my 2017 caddy a aliexpres camera.
The + goes to a 12v relay activated by the reverse light. And in the video you get an RCA connector, you have to cut the cable, and you will have 2 cables. Those cables go to the radio unit to the blue connector (I don't remember the pins now, I would say they were 6 and 12. They are the same as in Golf 7 or Leon Mk3). Once everything is connected, you only have to code with VAG-COM.

Tried the £130 OEM retrofit mirror monitor reverse kit. Bracket was cracked and the whole kit was no better than the cheap eBay ones so sent back.

Decided to go super cheap and bought a £36 12" touchscreen mirror dash cam with reverse from eBay.

Screen not super bright in daylight but enough to do the job. Plus it provides a bit of security of a dash cam. For £36 surprisingly responsive touch screen and works better than the price suggests. If I decide on a different solution later not too much money invested.

I’ve just fitted a Wolfbox G900 reversing camera with a digital mirror to my 2016 mk4. It was easy to fit and although it’s early days, I’m really impressed with it so far.
