Caddy R

Hi all!

New to the forum so still trying to work out how to post properly and getting use to the layout etc.

After owning a caddy that was CDL converted along with DSG, I always wondered how hard it would be to build a caddy with the later EA888 engine from a Golf r along with the DSG from a MK7 GTI to make it FWD only.

After reading about 2 incredible caddy’s with the EA888 conversion completed on this forum I thought I’d take the plunge and go for it myself. I am a very experienced vehicle technician and auto electrician so I’m not too worried about the fitting and wiring side of things. But I’m sure there will be stages of the build I definitely will need some support with.

I have just purchased the caddy to start the build, a 2015 1.6tdi startline in reflex silver. Not a very well spec’d van but it won’t stay that way for long I can assure you.

This will be a long on going process! Happy reading all!

The van has gone into the body shop to be painted down both sides! :D Had a few dents and paint was overall just looking dull.

Looking for a decent body kit to fit next, so I’ll have the rear doors and the bonnet painted then. Will be fully repainted then!

Had a few pictures sent to me from the body shop. Van in and stripped ready for prep :D while both sides are being painted, it will have colour coded door mouldings, door handles and wing mirrors. Always been a fan of Reflex Silver.

very cool, will be following your build, have a friend here in Australia that is hoping to do a very similar conversion shortly, hes done some BWA swapped caddys so to him its the next logical step as well.

Thank you for reading mate. I previously owned a caddy that was CDL converted along with DSG. It was incredible fun but I just prefer how the newer, more advance engine and gearbox performs in the mk7. The power delivery is incredible :D

The caddy is now in primer! Paint on Monday including high build and colour coded door handles, door mouldings and wing mirrors.

I am now looking for a smart body kit to fit through the winter if anyone has any recommendations?

I will also be painting the front end at the same time as fitting the body kit and the rear doors which also have some dents that need repairing. She’ll be Brand new again after that! :D (Bodywork wise anyway)

In the booth all masked up ready to paint this afternoon! Was amazed at how many little (and big) dents were in it, I guess reflex silver hides imperfections quite well? Either way it’s going to be a very straight van this time tomorrow :D

Nice!

Any reason you started with a Mk3 over a Mk4?

What sort of power you aiming for?

I started with a mk3 for a number of reasons if I’m honest. Firstly it’s not a very common conversion for a mk3 and I like to be different  secondly, I like a challenge  and thirdly the van was cheap and had a basic spec which is exactly what I wanted believe it or not. I want something that I can be upgrading constantly and keeping me busy, I enjoy upgrading my cars/projects. I have built myself a lovely civic eg with a k20a2 rotrex supercharger bolted to the side. That project can’t really go much further now. So on to this one!

I’m not looking for silly power, I’ll probably just run it with a stage 1 map. Close to 400bhp I’d imagine?

We will see how it feels when it’s finished. My old one was around 350bhp and was definitely quick but I think 400 would be better, especially with the more modern DSG and how it shifts being much more responsive.
