Matto's Indium Grey Caddy
Hello everyone. Just thought I would start a thread where I can share the progress of my new to me Caddy. Bought in March 24 to help enable a more outdoor oriented lifestyle. I've mountain biked for a number of years and just started to go camping a bit more so it has been handy for lugging kit around. Here are a few photos from its first few days at home.

My first job was to remove the "contractor" style roof bars and fit some genuine black rails. Whilst I was at it I decided to remove the matt black wrap that had been put on the roof. Nice and steady using heat to help it came off and luckily didn't find any nasties under there.

Next on the list was to fit some privacy curtains which someone found amusing. I also made up a rudimentary fork mount for an upcoming MTB trip to Scotland and The Lakes. It was also time to get the Tentbox and side awning fitted.

Small mod this time but I just wasn't keen on the black badges so changed those back to chrome. Badge faff and another camping trip. I upgraded my MTB fork mount to something a little nicer and made it so I could retain the lashing points.

I have been gathering parts to make a few changes in the coming months and first to tick off the list was fitting Caddy Life mirrors and the upgraded speakers. I also sound deadened the doors whilst at it.

That is it for now but the "parts to fit" pile is still quite big. Due to where I will be going in the van and the fact most roads look like they've been carpet bombed, I have decided to go down the swamper route. A long with the parts in the photo I have an under seat sub, armrest, carpets and Lazer lamps for the grill to fit so plenty to keep me busy. I'll update as and when there is some progress.

Nice van dude. Some nice tasteful demodifications there
What wheel and tyre sizes have you gone with for your steelies and ATs?

Thanks. Ah cool. I've got the Rail for anything that requires pedaling and a Remedy for bike park stuff. Was at Antur Stiniog Sunday just gone.Baldspeed Racing wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 4:38 pm I like this as cant beat a nice bike carrying van, the Trek is nice as well as I've got a Slash which I love

Cheers mate. I'm sure some won't agree. I am fond of Race Van and most of my previous cars were lowered but this needs to do different things and being lowered doesn't help.
Went with a 16" steel and 215/65/16 Fallen Wildpeaks. Hopefully get all the suspension and wheels swapped out soon.

Fair play, I did Antur a few years ago and really want to go back at some point. proper awesome riding spot given the surroundings and the jets flying over...making you lose concentration lol

Nice setup, though Ive always questioned the convenience of the tentboxes - if you want to drive anywhere do you have to pack the whole thing away?

Re: Matto's Indium Grey Caddy
Yeah it was good. Only ridden there once before back in 2018. It was my second bike park so was an interesting day. It's just a bloody trek to get there. Stayed over the night before in the TentBox so I didn't have a 3+ hour drive there. We had some views for a while but no jets unfortunately.Baldspeed Racing wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2024 7:39 am Fair play, I did Antur a few years ago and really want to go back at some point. proper awesome riding spot given the surroundings and the jets flying over...making you lose concentration lol

Thanks. They certainly have their pros and cons. They're easy enough to put up and down if you need to move around but I wouldn't bother with the living pod that encloses the ladders if you do need the van as it's a massive faff. I planned my trip around being able to camp somewhere with the set up above and ride to where I wanted to and then walk to a pub in the evening for food.
