OK False start...

Image

Ignore the other stuff i have on the drive unless you're interested...

Image

The interior, this van has definitely been used!

Image

Comfortable enough though, i have already done 1K miles in it.

Image

Back seats in decent working order, dirty as you like but working.

Image

i think I'm going to need thinners or something to clean this up

Image

Floor is in a bit of a state, id like a replacement but id imaging they are not cheap / hens teeth

Image

as you can see it is a work van. not real work, IT stuff

Image

headlining in decent order, i would like to wrap it in stretchy carpet stuff tho

Image

steel wheels! jealous much? i do have the centre caps though so thats something? maybe?

Image

A lot of miles on it. engine runs surprisingly sweet though.

Image

upgraded the stereo with a £45 ebay jobby, the one in it didnt work at all.

Image

1.6 litres, count em!

That's about it at the moment.

I have had to run it into the garage already as there's a mysterious electrical fault on it and i think also a parasite drain on the battery. It did stand for 12 months before i bought it.

I also hit a ripped to pieces truck tyre on the M6 last week and one of the front bearings is grumbling really loud at25 MPH and onward so don't want to risk it on the road again until that's done.

at the moment i'm after some alloys for it, i have to 1 way sticker the side and rear windows for security and my brother does car wrapping type things so hes going to get me some livery done.

Thanks all

Hi All,

Few odd things about the Van...

The wipers only work when the wheels are turning, is that normal?

The side lights are on permanently, but then when you turn the side lights on they go a bit dimmer, does that mean i have daylight running lights?

The lights are happy to be left on permanently, they go off with the van. Now this was the same on my old 2004 Ducato so i'm assuming that's correct.

Thanks all

Wipers will switch to intermittent when you come to a stop

Sidelight is actually a DRL and yes will dim when main beam turned on , it has a stop and tail bulb in it,

The lights will switch off after you lock the van , coming home is activated in the BCM,

There’s other things can be activated like if you unlock it but don’t open any doors it will re lock itself, rear wiper activation when in reverse to name a couple

Thanks for the help!

The newest car i own is my 55 plate mazda so all these new things throw me off quite a bit, especially when i have a few electrical faults as it is.

i wondered why the rear wiper seemed to have a life of its own.

Given the spec (poverty) i didn't expect so many features.

Have a look at my van, it was ultra poverty spec when I bought it 😂😂 I’ve added to it my own spec and touches

Little update...

Love the van BTW Irish-Si!

So I got the bearings changed, used the garage, for what they charge against me shouting at bearings i left them to it. Sounds a whole heap better. Still need to insulate the back to be honest but even still, no more grumbling bearings.

1 way stickered the side doors:

Image

Image

Looks a lot better. haven't done the back as the window is slightly curved and its too cold to do outside. Flat will work but no chance in this cold on a curve.

Image

The next odd thing (fault, issue?) i have going on is since i hit that truck tyre i have had this warning light appear:

Image

If i press the presumably corresponding button:

Image

Then it just flashes and not a lot else. Now if I've read correctly then its a tyre pressure monitor. My question is how does it work and how can i sort the warning light? oddly i got the info off the internet, there's no such light according to the manual.

To illustrate the electrical fault i have:

Image

These didn't light up when i first got the van, they have started to work now though, I know this sometimes happens when a vehicle has been standing a while...

But these lights definitely don't work:

Image

I have unplugged the radio from the back as i think whatever electrical fault i have has killed it. pain in the arse as i had only just bought it. Oddly if i leave it powered on the phone connects to it but doesn't do anything useful except then doesn't allow me to use the phone as a sat nav, i only get the text as if its fully connected.

I was supposed to have a car sparks onto it this Wednesday but sadly it didnt happen. i have him booked for next Friday now.

Any help anyone can give between now and then would be greatly accepted!

OK...

Turns out a long press on the Tyre pressure sensor button resets it.

Glad of that, i don't like looking at warning lights on a dashboard.

Washed it today, just in time for it to rain...

Car sparks guy came round on Friday, he reckons most of the issues are likely to be issues with the squib ring.

As some of the lights appear and disappear when the wheel turns it sound plausible enough to me. He has said get a new one, an old or salvage part is likely to have similar issues.

I'll also wait until we have installed the new squib ring before i start messing with the radio too much. It may still be OK but until i'm sure the electrics are OK. I don't want to chance it.

Meanwhile...

Phoned VW for a new squib ring, they reckon they'll need to do a reading off the van to ID the actual correct part. sounds like an expensive blag to me so i spoke to my Car sparks and he said he can do the reading and ID the correct part.

Either way its a £400 part as according to Mr VW the part is the same cost regardless but they still have slightly different ones.

Car Sparks has been busy this week as well so that's another week gone.

Meanwhile my cigarette lighter socket has given up the ghost so that's annoying.

So all in all a bit of a lost week.
