Problem coding cruise control with OBD11

Hi All,
I have a mk4 caddy which had a MFSW as standard so I upgraded the steering wheel buttons and trim for a set with cruise control. Then using OBD11 Pro VAG package I selected multi function steering wheel with cruise control in the steering column control unit I also activated speed limiter (incase I needed it for the speed limit function), I then went into engine control unit and ticked byte 5 bit 5 (it doesnt list what they are but i read somewhere that byt5 bit 5 was cruise control). When I tried the cruise control I get the cruise symbol on the dash but it has an exclamation next to it. I then done a scan and it had a fault in engine control unit 'cruise control set signal' .
Does anyone have any idea what I have done wrong?

Have you turned it on in the engine section of OBDeleven aswell?

I would inactivate speed limiter and see if that makes a difference.
Some VW cars have a system that looks like it has cruise control but is a different speed limiter system entirely that can be set to limit maximum speed with the throttle pressed.
Then of course there is the BG speed limiting system that some on this forum have mentioned coding out. Though I thought it was a physical module. But could be that!

Yeah done byte 5 bit 5 and from i can see is the right byte/bit to change

Tried it and still the same , even reset all the coding and tried again bur still the same, I might have to try and find someone to do it worse case

You should be able to see the drop down menu in bit 5 which gives two options for cruise control CCS and standard.

If I go into byte 5 all I have is a tick boxes I can click or. I can click Hex to change the value

Are you doing this from long coding, or adaptation? Use long coding, it's much easier to understand which options there are.

Hi STP,
Sorry for the delay in getting back you,
I am doing it via long coding and i even managed to get long coding for the steering column control unit from the vehicle i got the part number for the buttons from and that didn't work. I am waiting for someone to check the wiring for me to see if there is a wiring issue/missing wire (i read on the Wiki ross-tech page that some of the golfs had missing a wire) if the wiring is ok i might have to accept for the time being i am gonna have to keep pressing the throttle pedal and keep an eye on the speedo through road works

Not sure if it will help, but you can try the (no pun intended) help function in obdeleven and select chat, they are slow to respond but they do respond after a few days, also they have a forum for stuff like this.
Also suggest checking if you can, presence (and function) of clutch switch, brake switch (some vehicles have a dual brake switch and if one side isn't working the cruise won't set but the brake lights still work) and that the steering angle sensor is working and correctly calibrated (no faults) although the last one is usually self regulated unless (of course) you had the steering wheel off...
You really need VCDS for this and not obdeleven (for the tests above and steering angle sensor calibration - which once triggered by VCDS only requires you to drive forward and backwards about 10m several times until it calibrates itself)
You may find a usable setup on eBay or AliExpress which can do the same thing... perhaps, or maybe the service functions are there in obdeleven (haven't looked for those) to do steering angle sensor etc. and feed back of clutch and brake switch status.

I have recently removed the speed limiter from a BG van with OBDELEVEN, simple enough when you know how.

No not yet i was speaking to a VW tech and they reckon that it will need a wire running from the steering column control unit to the engine control unit

I'm pretty sure that I have all correct parts, and coding goes well until I try to code the dash, and I get "function 31 not available".
Annoying as (OOOh look at me, I can curse) to be honest.
