Xenon retrofit MK4 caddy

Post by VWMxVan »

Hi all, going to apolagise in advance i haven't got access to the how to part of the forum where it is suggested all the info for the retro fit is.( I have applied for access )

I've got a few days off work and was looking to fit the xenons ive bought however I'm abit lost to the coding side of things with VCDS. Happy to get them fitted but wanting to check first ive got the correct BCM and there isn't anything else needed prior to chucking them in( headlights are complete units with correct ballasts bulbs etc) Then wanting to confirm I've got the correct coding to do it.

Again fully appreciate i haven't got access to the how to section yet just thought if someone could help while I've got the days off work to do it.

Hi, it is against forum rules to post info from the How To Section in the Caddy Chat section but if you want to confirm if you have the correct BCM then let me know the part number. Maybe you already have them but you will also need (2) Power Moudles and (2) Control Units parts 4 and 6 in this diagram.

Perfect thankyou, fully appreciate the not posting bits from the how to.

So I have the power modules and control units on the headlight assemblies so thats a good start.

Just scanned the BCM and its come back with this partnumber. 5K0 937 085 AD ( photo of the scan below also )

Really appreciate the help and reply atleast if its wrong bcm I can order one on my days off and get that swapped prior to fitting. Image

You seem to have all the parts needed then and your BCM will work also.

People who have access may as well help others if they can. I'm on 460 posts and still stuck in Caddy Chat.

I cant speak for others but for me it is out of respect for DOC and the forum and just because he is not around doesn't mean the rules should change, at least that's the way I see it. I doubt DOC is in jail and I pray he is alive and well. Who knows what is wrong, maybe he just don't feel like coming on for what ever reason? Anyway hopefully it is temporary as it would be nice to see him back.

He hasn't felt like coming onto a forum he built over 15 years, for over a year? I don't believe that for a minute.

I would love to know what's happened and I respect his previous drive to build what he has created - but it's floating like a ghost ship with no captain. Do you really think he would read this and not jump in to say something if he had access himself?

Perfect cheers for that.

Just to double check I've read a few people who had the 85 code at the end of there bcm and it didnt work or needed bridges between pins do you know if it will require the bridging or will it be simply coding once the xenons are installed?

Thats your opinion and I respect that. We would all like to know what happened to make sure he is ok but he does not owe us an explanation unfortunately. He strikes me as a honest private person and not someone who details his life on the internet and you have to respect that and take that into consideration. And yes I do 100% believe he could read this and not jump on to say something.

However you may feel about it... It's his forum, and the ones that have been on here for years know how dedicated he has been to it.
No, at the moment nobody seems to know how or where he is...
But as i say... Without him we wouldn't have this forum at all.
I understand the frustration of new members completely, but who are we to break the rules of something that's been very helpful to us, and go against the word of someone that gave us this forum in the first place....
Theres obviously something very wrong in docs life for him to be mia for so long.
Iv been on here since 2018 and I'd say he was active almost everyday answering people questions and sharing his knowledge.
At the end of the day, the forum belongs to him.... It's not our place to be going against the rules set in place by the owner.... Wherever he may be

Hi VWMxVan, it should be just coding once everything is installed. I seen those posts also but I have also read on the How To tread that 085 BCM's work and someone had the same BCM as you have.

Hi, do the xenon headlights use the old headlight plug (ie plug and play) or are they different wiring? I know they require coding after fitment but just want to know about the wiring thanks.

Hi Scotscad, its the same plug, plug and play but one of the plugs wont reach where it plugs into the xenon, the existing van side wiring needs to be made longer to reach. You can do this by removing some of the black tape and separating the xenon wiring from the rest of the wiring (its all taped up together) it is really time consuming and if your tempted to take a blade to it be careful not to cut the wiring. Another way to do it would be to make a plug adapters with some wiring in-between, this would be the neatest way to do it.

I cut mine with a Stanley blade, did have to remove the air box to get to a bracket which was clamping the loom down on the passenger side, Took maybe 20 mins. Just go careful
