Rocker cover gasket woes.

I know there are a fair few threads about this but I want to check the hive minds general views/experience.

Had the head gasket done and then ever since I've had a small leak from the back of the rocker cover when warm.

The mechanic who did the head gasket used an aftermarket rocker cover gasket which clearly didn't work. Yesterday he swapped it for a new VW gasket and rocker cover (at his expense - which was nice) and it's still leaking. Looks to be the back right hand corner.

Assuming he's done the bolts up in the correct order to the correct torque what's the next thing to try?

Is it sealant or is that a no-no as VW fit them without?
