2K Blue Daily

Hi Everyone,

I posted a hello in the new members section and as the work has now started I thought I’d get a thread up and running. It might be a bit of a read to start with, but once it’s going there should be some good pics.

I’ve been modding VW's for the last 18 years and picked up this caddy a month ago as i needed a new van for my business use. I had a 08 plate Audi A4 sline TDI before in Metallic Black which was a really good car and the wife is now using it as her daily.

This is one of those projects which always were going to get the full works rather than things happening over time. I needed to bring the van up a few spec levels. After having the Audi i was spoilt with comfort and ride quality. I’m not building a show car but an everyday useable vehicle.

The van is an 58 plate 2.0 TDI 140 in Metallic blue. I picked her up on 39K and was owned by VW before me so got looked after well. Body work is pretty good but there are a few marks here and there from use but nothing major, in all honestly it’s in very good condition but I’m fussy lol. It will be visiting the body shop soon so everything will be taken care of.

This is how she was when i picked her up. I decided to buy a caddy on the Monday and bought this on the Wednesday lol

As i do a reasonable amount of driving the first thing on the list was suspension, I’ve been spoilt over the years with some fantastic set ups so the factory suspension just didn’t cut it. It was fun with the huge side walled tyres and sky high ride for 4 wheel drifting around the corners but needed sorting out.

My friend had the vmax kit fitted to his van with the usual shackles on the rear and recommended it so i got him to order me a kit in as a starting point. The fitting went fairly smoothly and 3hrs later she was sitting nicely. Maybe not as low as i was hoping for but still a lot better than it was. I’m still on the lookout for the right rims but until then i decided to throw on some wheels i had knocking around at the unit from one of my race cars and some old rubber i found. I nearly kept the steels on as they looked original but the 18's won in the end lol

Next was a remap. I don’t really drive that quick on the roads so wasn’t wanting huge power so decided to get my mate Dan to do a ECO remap more power but more economical when driven normally. We decided against removal of the DPF, too much hassle and settled on 172bhp and around 400NM. And all I can say is I’m impressed the 2.0 8V engine drives so much better than their 16v cousins. The 8V has power all through the rev range pulling harder as rpm increases and makes for a great package with the suspension upgrade.

While i had the wheels fof i was pleasantly surprised to find out the discs and callipers were basically the same as the Mk5 GTI, 312mm which was a bonus but will still get an upgrade.

I also removed the rear wiper the other day and have a few more things on order. I have a caddy life side rail cover on order and touran front bumper as well as a Rocco multi-functional steering wheel. I’m on the lookout for an interior but can’t decide on what yet but have a feeling it will be from a Rocco as too many vans have the Mk5 gti interior these days. But still fantastic seats

Rather than keep typing i will bang up a few planned mods and look forward to any comments. Cheers

Touran door cards
Touran front bumper
Sport line rear bumper
Rocco Multifunctional steering wheel
Rocco Leather seats
Touran centre console and arm rest
Trimmed rear cabin
R32 front and rear brake conversion with DS2500 pads
Some 19" rims
Quaife LSD
New Stereo System

:D

Very nice.

you got the suspension wound all the way down?

Pretty sure mine sits lower on the vmax kit and ive still got 15mm left to go on the front and at least 1 maybe 2 holes on the rear.

Cheers, It still has 30mm ish on the front legs but the rear is on the highest bolt hole. The rear brackets only have 4 holes. Thinking about it i have seen some with more. Is there 2 types of kit?

Yep its on the lowest setting I only have 4 bolt holes, have you got the 6 hole ones? Anyway its fine for now the wheels are ET 35 so a fair bit of poke there, dont want to do too much rubbing.

Just picked up these R32 brakes, have the front and rears to go on :D Should look good with the blue paintwork but need them for the stopping power.

And have some R888's on the way as im putting the van round the sprint at GTI International for a bit of a laugh.

Image

If anyone is interested in the 312mm mk5 GTI front brakes please drop me a Pm I have the discs, calipers, carriers, rain covers and brake hoses, discs are under 5k and pads.
