140 or not??
hi lads, i wonder if you could quickly clear something up for me.
i'm just about to trade my 174 transporter in for a caddy 140. i will be remapping the 140 when i get it. I just seen a youtube vid of someone getting 173bhp with a remap on their 104bhp model. i'm just wondering what the main differences are between the 104 and the 140 and whether or not it's worth paying the extra.
i basically want to have the the biggest potential, so if the 140 has intercooler (like the golf 150's have) then this would help sway me as it'll be beneficial down the line.

Re: 140 or not??
The 104 has an intercooler also but I'd reckon the 140, due to it being a 2.0 rather than the 1.9 will leave it more able to produce high power figures.
Not sure what the 140s can be tuned to but the 104 needs quite a bit to bring it beyond 200bhp, I'd guess the 140 would make the guts of that from just a remap.

Re: 140 or not??
my next question is where am i best taking it for a good remap.
i'm in glasgow.
i went to powertune with my transporter, the guy beemed a map up from birmingham and put it on my transporter then i had to take his word for it i had 210bhp and an extra 100nm torque. i certainly have never felt it. i just want to be sure that i'm getting the best possible increase.

Re: 140 or not??
I personally wouldn't trust anyone remapping without a rolling road, sure you pay more for it but the proof of the gains are there in front of you.

Re: 140 or not??
yeah ideally i wanna be taking it to the rolling road.
another question, do these caddys tell me my mpg etc? i didn't like the guessing game with the transporter. when i know my mpg it encourages me to drive more sensible to try get the figure up.

Re: 140 or not??
Only other thing to consider with the 2.0 TDI esp the 140bhp varient is that the turbos fail quite often, has happened on a number of A3 and MK5 Golfs, I speak from experience too.
If you are looking for decent power a 104bhp with the 150bhp turbo (mk4 Golf etc) may be a good start.

Re: 140 or not??
i think i'm going to source a touran 170bhp turbo (unless you can recommend something better) then i'll be going for remap. then in time to come, remove dpf, custom exhaust, filter then i'll call it a day. hopefully i'll have broken the 200bhp barrier.

Re: 140 or not??
With the 170 Turbo the only thing that will struggle to get to 200 is the injector nozzles, might be worth lookin into getting the injectors from the 170 Touran also.
Also, I'd reckon DPF and exhaust renewal would be best done before spending any money on a remap as once the DPF is removed the map will need to be changed again anyway, I know I'd prefer to do it once as it'll need to be a custom Live/Rollin road map so it's gonna be a bit more than the regular reflashing of the ECU.

Re: 140 or not??
cheers mate, i'm tempted to leave the touran turbo as someone told me that it's not a simple swap. might just go for the exhuast, filter and dpf remove and a rolling map. that should do i suppose.

Re: 140 or not??
The 150 turbo will be pretty much a straight swap and if you fancy more you could go hybrid.

Re: 140 or not??
you would have to change the injectors tho as the standard caddy ones only really flow up to 180ish
The pain in arse bit is the injectors are in the head so it has to be removed to change them
