Let the build begin

Post by C Chis »

Papa Bear Cheers!

Yes, local paint shop made me up a couple of rattle cans of base coat and lacquer.

The mirrors came ready primed, easy to do in an afternoon.

yeah, I painted a new coolant cap, I ordered black, however out of stock/out of production so they sent a dark blue one, however the washer bottle cap came in black from autodoc.co.uk, a German parts place.

Heated, electrically adjustable and folding!

Have you got these mirrors fully functioning? I've changed mine on my 2012 caddy, the electric adjustment works, although back to front, but they won't fold.
Folding is enabled in VCDS via the 'A' suffix door modules, but they still don't fold.
I wondered if any pin needed moving.
Still trying to get Elsawin to work for wiring info.........

Cailsey Hi buddy,

I’ve went down the switched route for the folding mirrors, used an old folding mirror switch from the scrapyard to try the function, worked as expected, now on the hunt for a Touran folding mirror/lock insert for my door. Harder to find than hens teeth!
I’m using the electrics from a Touran.

The coding via VCDS is for the switch option.
I’m not looking to code them in for folding on locking, however, I’ve just bought VCP and might do it later on when I’ve enough experience.

Yes, I replaced the mirror switch. Van already had electric adjustable/heated mirrors, so I upgraded the switch for the one with the addition fold position.
Maybe I've done something stupid!!

The wiring from the switch back to the door module will most likely be different.

I’m using the complete door wiring, driver control unit and loom from a Touran...

Mirror switch on the Touran has the control wire going into T32a/19 whereas my caddy mirror switch has the control wire going into T32a/6 on the driver door control unit J386

Same connection at the switch T6a/5

Checking the wiring is correct will eliminate that and it would also be worthwhile rechecking the coding in VCDS.

Thanks so much. That's really helpful. I've been belling the various cores out and I've got some of it sussed, but that info is really helpful.
Almost got Elsawin working, so with that too, I should get it sorted.
With lockdown coming, I'll probably have a bit more time on my hands!!!
More mods........

Just finished reading all the pages, it's very inspiring. Respect for all the mods you did. I think I will steal a few ideeas :D and waiting for the passenger for lock/unlock button mod. I was also thinking how to do it properly.
By the way, do you have a link for the front splitter? Will it work also for a normal Caddy bumper or only a Touran one?
Good luck with the build mate

Hi buddy, I appreciate you making the time to have a read through Image

The splitter is specifically for the Touran bumper from a company called Maxton Design https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAXTON-FRON ... 2749.l2649
Fits well but perhaps a little thin, about 3mm, however first splitter I’ve ever bought so not sure how thick they’re meant to be.

I’ve been holding off on the unlock button, waiting on a weather window to coincide with me being ready to do it!

Simple stuff today...

Winter prep for MTB’ing!

Upgraded the Worx pressure washer to standard water hose quick release fittings and a longer, larger diameter feed hose.

Quicker to prime and easier to use, no more having to lift it out of the van to use...
Bring on the mud!

Swapped out my single LED’s for the Audi LED’s today, more of a diffused light as well as more OEM look.

The low lumen Audi LED’s were swapped for my own 3mm higher lumen ones, direct fit too, result!

Before...

After...

Might remove the series resisters to give a little more light too.

Swapped out a broken connector lock on the passenger side control module, even though it wasn’t seen, it had been bugging me for a few months.

Lifted the front end up a little too, apparently it sounds like someone’s having a crash every time it scrapes going over the path when I’m reversing out the drive Image

Upcoming mods still to do...

9. Dukes of Hazard air horns (so ‘70’s)
23. Replacement colour coded rear bumper - R32 one, test fitted, almost ready for painting
28. TV/DVD/multimedia unit for the back
35. Interior unlocking button for the side door
38. Engine/gearbox upgrade, power, more power... very, very long term
41. Low washer fluid level detection
42. TPMS
44. Xenon lights from a Touran + headlight washers
45. Climatronic upgrade (parts here, waiting to install)
46. Colour change to power steering cap
