JamieMcc's Silver TDI

Post by JamieMcc »

Right here we go with my ’07 1.9TDI. All I wanted when I got it was to have a van that I could chuck the mountain bikes in the back of and maybe kip in for a few night. Then I discovered the caddy forums and my plans changed. Here is what ive done so far…

When I bought it (before actually)

First thing to be changed were the steel wheels. Replaced them with some 18” Gallardo rims. Got these off gumtree for £120 with only a tiny superficial mark. Total deal I thought.

Still looking like a tractor but lowering is in the pipeline.

Since I’d be sleeping in it from time to time I thought I’d carpet and insulate the rear. So I ripped out the ply lining and got some carpet from Megavanmats. If anyone is thinking about doing this you will need about 6m of carpet.

Started with the wheel arches, which was a big mistake. Should have started with something easier. Sadly no matter how often I removed and replaced I couldn’t get the one crease out of the right arch and ended up cutting it. Gutted!!

The rest of the carpeting went fine once I got over my balls up on the arch

For the floor I got some industry standard blue vinyl off Ebay. Industry offcuts are cheap! Cuttin this to fit the wooden flooring was a nightmare coz of all the sandy type stuff in the vinyl (nonslip). Christ know how many blades I went though.

That’s pretty much all I have done so far. Next in line is fitting some KW or Eibach coilys. Thinking about getting the bumpers colour coded and spraying the light casing and VW badges matt black. Would love a touran bumper but canny justify the outlay and the cost of a respray ontop of that. A remap is on the backburner but the looks come before performance in my eyes.

good work m8 as for the carpeting i had a bit of bother on that wheel arch as well, eventually got it with the use of a hairdryer which made the material a bit more flexible and easier to work with ..
worth a try if you have enough carpet left m8 :D

What fixings did you use to put the panels back on once you had carpeted them?

I just used 1/2" or maybe 3/4" size 8 screws and covered the screw head with some black plastic screw caps. nice and easy to use and i think it looks pretty tidy too. However i did end up breaking 3 drill bits drilling the pilot holes. Cheap drillbits or ham fistedness on my part?!

Thans. How did you do the rear door pillar? Did you do it with a separate piece of carpet to the sides?

Aye thats exactly how i did it. You can conceal the join between the back and side piece quite easlily in the corner between the rear pillar and the side wall. If you cock it up you can always pull it off and try again. Im sure there are pleny folk on here who can gve you some sound advice on the carpeting. You should registered on one of the T4 forums. I spent hrs looking though those before i started doing mine.
