Andy when you took the sump off did you make sure the oil pick up pipe was clear?

Yes. I checked the oil pick-up pipe and there wasn't any debris in the gauze. I also reverse rinsed it through too and it was clear.

Hi There,
Any updates on this issue? Having a very similar problem with my 2011 Caddy.
Thanks

Similar issue here as well.
Had the van serviced and checked by a spanner yesterday and he gave the all clear with good bill of health.
Follow up with him today and he’s suggesting a faulty sensor. I’m going to check the sensor for gunk and wiring when I get a chance.

Re: Low Oil Pressure - Guidance please
My first thought is that the sensor (or wiring to it) could be faulty.
If you have VCDS then it is time to do a scan and see what is triggering the dashboard warning. If you have the full VCDS you can monitor the live sensor output which should show if the sensor output varies with rpm or if there is simply no output - which implies a broken cable.
Sensors are fairly cheap and have a hard life - think about how much stress they absorb every time the motor is started up, and especially the peak pressure loads at higher revs year after year. I am surprised it is not a specified every x years replacement item.
So assuming you have checked the dipstick shows the correct oil level and can see the oil condition looks OK, then personally I would not hesitate to go ahead fit a replacement sensor (along with fresh oil and filter) and see if that clears the fault and there is no sign of metal debris in the drained sump oil.
It may be worth noting that there have also been reports of sensor issues with other VW models. The T4 forum has plenty, likewise Briskoda has reports of similar issues with the clone Octavia 1.6tdi models. I would not be surprised if the 1.6tdi Caddy may have basically the same component. It may be worth mentioning that in a few cases, sensor issues on the Octavia were traced to a cabling break where the sensor cable repeatedly flexed over a support bracket.

Re: Low Oil Pressure - Guidance please
Update. I have changed the sensor and the low oil warning light still intermittantly comes on.
Done some test drives and it comes on when the engine is fully warm and lower revs. ie fine on a fast dual carriageway but when slowing down to go round the round the roundabout on low revs <1500 light comes on again, then off as the revs rise but not consistently.

Re: Low Oil Pressure - Guidance please
Have you gone from a oil pressure warning to an oil level warning or am I reading that wrong?
The oil level is measured by the sensor on the sump.
Have you checked the oil pressure switch is actually a switch and not the dynamic type? If you have the dynamic type fitted, you can recode your instrument cluster to suit.

Re: Low Oil Pressure - Guidance please
Hi Doc. There has always been plenty of oil in the engine with the oil level being correct. The engine oil is from VW btw. Thinking about it the oil light has come on occasionally when cornering sharply (if you can do such a thing in a jacked-up BG van!). But is that a symptom of reduced oil pressure?
As for whether the oil pressure switch is "dynamic" I don't know.

Re: Low Oil Pressure - Guidance please
Which warning are you getting?
Is it low oil level or low oil pressure?
Do you have any diagnostics tools which might monitor the inputs from the sensors?

Re: Low Oil Pressure - Guidance please
Tonight I had a fumble around and detached the oil pressure switch cable. There is a nick through the insulation near the connector, however nothing obvious that it could earth to. Also the wiring going down behind the engine has come out of the covering. I unclipped the end connector from what I suspect is an exhaust sensor and pulled it back so I could try to check the cable insulation for further breaks and replace the covering but it's very tight. More checks tomorrow.

Re: Low Oil Pressure - Guidance please
Last weekend I took the Caddy to Bellmans. The wire to the oil pressure switch was replaced and the wiring checked for signs of damaged insulation under the battery tray etc. None found and nothing on VCDS.
The light still comes on randomly!

Re: Low Oil Pressure - Guidance please
Did you have the wire replaced the whole way to the instrument cluster or just across the engine bay?

Re: Low Oil Pressure - Guidance please
Hello
I have a vw caddy van 2015 1.6tdi mk3 75kw 102hp CAYD.
Had the van for about a year (No oil pressure light)
I have recently had my oil pressure light coming on, but this happens only when up to temp,
Check the oil (max) followed by oil pressure switch
(Aftermarket switch) No change.
Next sump was taken off (No metal bits in the sump) pick up pipe was clean, pump taken off (No scoring)
Big end bearings checked for any movement, (all good) sump back on.
Next a Genuine vw oil pressure sensor (No change)
I didn't think it could be a possible faulty wiring the connection to the O/switch looked good.
Next a brand new oil pump fitted at the cost of £554.23 You know what I'm going to say (NO CHANGE)
My van is now booked in to have the wiring checked on the 7th Sept.
Any other help would be most appreciated.

Buzz.1 did you ever get to the bottom of this problem?
