A Black Caddy...

Post by Wudy »

So, I have finally got myself a Caddy!
After a lot of searching I found what I wanted; in black, good condition, with the TDI 104HP engine and air-con (and preferably electric windows). If you have a look for that criteria, it goes from hundreds of Caddys, to about 10. Add in a limited budget and it's like finding something that doesn't exist.

Anyway, after much searching, I found the perfect Caddy!
The right colour, excellent condition, air-con, electric windows, heated seats, alloys, and all for £2k less than I was expecting to pay for a Caddy. On the downside its 135k on the clock, but I'm yet to buy a car with less than 110k on it doesn't bother me. It also has twin side doors and a lift-up rear door, which does suit my needs pretty well but I wasn't looking for any particular door configuration.

Immediate plans: Rear window tint re-done, rear door handle painted, rail covers.

After that it'll be a long slow process as I'll be attempting to start my own business early next year. Will be posting up photos of anything interesting that happens though!

That's all for now anyway! :)

Cheers :D Ahh didn't know they were sought after as such, definitely rarer though! I wasn't really looking for any type of doors, but before buying I had been thinking about how I'd have my draws/racking in there and with the solution I have in my head I'd be opening both back doors every time I wanted to get something out, so it's quite good having the single tailgate really.

Good luck with your search stone! Are you as fussy as me regarding a colour and specific features? I'm sure if I had added the tailgate as a criteria to my list I would be looking for years!

Cheers for the comments guys, off to VW tomorrow to get some little bits and bobs so may have some progress already in the next week or two 8)

I'm trying not to narrow down the search too much; tailgate is more of a 'would like' than a 'must have'. Not too fussy on colour, ideally not white but if the right van comes along in white the so be it.
Would also like a twin-slider to go with my twin-slider T5 but again, can't be too picky! :D

Looking forward to the progress updates.

Not much of an update but as I'm around I'll post up, just in case anyone's bored and fancies a read...

After a day of going here and there buying/ordering things, I've got a few bits 'n' bobs done.
New number plates front and back, to replace the old ones that were starting to look a bit old, the rear also had advertising from a used van dealership and the front had a England flag on the side (where GB badges usually go), so got nice new completely plain ones and got them stuck on instead of drilled, so looking clean and smooth now. Clean set of plates always makes all the difference! Also got a new tax disc holder to replace the one advertising the same used van dealer.

My trip to VW got me my rail covers ordered; planning on glueing them to the existing rails, don't fancy buying all new rails etc for both doors to do it properly. And I found out that a new headlight switch is £60  (the soft-touch rubber is starting to come off mine), think I'll leave that for now...
I also wanted a 'C20' badge that I've seen on some Caddys, but it doesn't seem to show up with the other badges on the system, anyone have any ideas on getting one?
EDIT: Got a new genuine headlight switch on eBay for £17 posted, that's more like it! And found a C20 badge like what I wanted on eBay here. Does anyone have a photo of one fitting from factory? I know I've seen them but can't find any on t'internet. Think I'm going to replace my TDI badge with it.

Oh, and also got a quote for a rear window re-tint of £80... was thinking of more like £50-60, so going to get some more quotes to see what I can get. What sort of price have you guys paid?

That's all for now, next update should be the rail covers with photos, hopefully within a week (whenever my brother can spray them up).

Cheers mate.

Just got a quote of £50 for the window tint, much better than the £80 I had before! :D

EDIT: And R.A.D side rail brackets ordered. Hopefully have the rail covers painted in the next week (whenever my brother has the time, but I'll keep nagging him :P )

Just had my tint redone this morning, looking much better!

Had it done by Tintaglass in Bristol, I'd heard he had a Caddy too but was quite surprised when I saw it, also a black one and looking very cool with what looked like Sportline kit including rear spoiler, colour-coded mirrors, mk6 seats, lowered on 18's and some bigger brakes. Should've got a photo really, was a cool Caddy.

Everyone knows what a tinted window looks like, but a couple of snaps:

Can also see my nice new plain plate there lol. Still waiting to have my rail covers painted :( but received my brackets from Matt @ R.A.D :D
