Sounds like there was a lot of colourful words used lol 😆
Good job n great write up
Could u not have just slightly lifted the trim with a trim removal kit and slid the wires underneath the mouldings - would have saved some pain and dissaproving looks from the neighbours when they hear your vocab !!??

Anyways, cracking job

For me, I think when I need to consider power in the back I'm going to get a power station that charges via solar ... To run from the car battery or similar wouldn't be too suitable unless I'm doing say 200km a day for charging .... Maybe I just don't understand electrical systems (self confessed) but a power station type set up would be very mobile for me from vehicle to vehicle and vehicle to camp site
Running a solar power cable or charging at home sufficient for a day / weekend getaway or charge once at site if your camping for longer and the car is stationary
I'm thinking like an ecoflow or a bluetti or something along those lines

I also want my camper to double as a coffee bsns during the working week so my considerations and power needs are very different

But I do like your thoughts, systems n process

Good find Flog! Mine's a 2018 version so I wonder if they'll fit . . .

Been doing a few odd jobs to try and tie up loose ends before I make a start on the big carpeting work

Testing out wiring for the main lighting in the back, temporarily connected with terminal blocks to check it's right! - 2 T5 led lights, one to go above each side door and a snazzy looking golf R rear light to go by the barn doors. Wired so the switch changes between the door open trigger or the permanent feed. Although annoyingly the permanent feed still turns off after 15 mins or so.

Setting out the wiring lengths

All good and pleased to find the switch illumination is nice and even (better than it looked in the item pictures)

Made a start on carpeting the ply panels to tick off another thing off the list, was going to do two colours of carpet - the body in anthracite and the ply and roof in a slightly lighter shade but if my maths is right I would have had to spend about 50% more than doing it all in one colour so changed my mind and will do all the walls and ply in anthracite and just the roof panel in a lighter shade (smoke)

Also, inspired by jakes idea I've been mucking about designing the bedbox in 3D, not really essential but is quite cool to help with visualising it beforehand. The yellow highlighted section will be a drawer to extend it to full length to sleep on, I did this in my old van and it worked really well

Pretty sure the body is the same it’s only the front ends and interiors and engine that changed between the mk4 and 3

Obviously most of the spicy language was under my breath and aimed in the general direction of Wolfsburg in Germany lol!

Lifting the trim and pushing the wires under would definitely work but it did look like there were a few pinch points and knowing my luck I'd have snagged a wire somewhere and then fault finding would end up being a pita

Your CAD looks a bit more polished than mine :D

Progress is looking good. I really like those interior lights, that Golf one is going to look great! I've got all of my interior lights out at the moment for running wires, you don't realise quite how essential they are until they're gone haha

@transition
Not sure if it's just me but you pics are way out of focus ...

What software did you use for this? And how do you add the caddy floor to it?

@corrigan42 This is Autodesk Fusion, the floorplan is a screenshot of the floor of a 3D model which is then laid flat.

Another angle which shows the drawer more clearly, prob need to put three runners in which makes it a bit more fiddly
