spot weld drill bit

Post by Cdgold3 »

Hi Guys

What size and tool do you recommend to drill our the caddy rear plate for a rear seat conversion.

I used a standard drill bit for the mounting plate on the touran and it took ages but still have to do the front mount.

I have searched but it must be under a secret section, I don't have access to yet :(

Looks ok but the end must be about 8mm which seems too big, maybe more like 6mm would be the right size.

Have used those on the Mini. Ok but not great be prepared to make a full hole through both panels. There are also one-piece drill bits that drill out the welds. They are better.

Get yourself an 8mm cobalt spot weld drill bit, little bit of cutting oil on on each weld before you start drilling and you'll fly through them. If you can make yourself a very thin chisel (I use sections of old power hacksaw blades cut up and sharpened) to start prying the panels apart, you should feel the panels separate as you drill through the top layer.

Thanks Guys, I bought a cheap 8mm/6mm from Amazon. that worked well on the Touran but did wear the 6mm our near then end, so struggled abit.

Not done my caddy yet but planning to take more care with that.
