Engine conversion.

Post by Kaigerard »

Hello everyone,

I don’t have full access to the site yet but need some advice/knowledge if you don’t mind.

I have a 2014 maxi, I am going to put a 2009 gtd 170cr engine where my 1.6 currently sits.

I need to know exactly what I need from the donor car, it’s all available.

I’m also taking out my dash and putting in a 2016 if that changes any answers you might give.

And I have heated Passat cc seats yet to be wired if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, welcome along!

The key thing with any engine swap is to take your time, read up as much as possible, like the wiring schematics, any mechanical differences, modules, etc.

It’s a great idea to start a build thread, getting your post count up and then requesting access to the technical sections, however, in the meantime have a read through the existing build threads as they’ll give you a bit of an incite into the task you’ve got ahead of you!

I’m about 8 weeks into an engine swap and I’m still sorting out the wiring schematics, having parts recoded, deciding on what parts from the donor need to be reused/upgraded and waiting on new parts arriving!

Information is available, however, best to do the above and then if/when you get stuck to post up with specific questions as these are easier to answer!

And include lots of pictures!

Thanks for the reply.

I won’t be doing the work myself, I have the chance to grab the parts from the donor car cheap but I have until Friday.

So was really looking for some quick advice on the parts I need before I miss out.

From what I have read online I will need the engine, gearbox, ecu clocks.

Anymore info would be very helpful

Thanks

Best would be to get a complete donor, so you can test that everything works properly or speak to a person/company who will be doing the job and make sure they happy with it. Doubt you'll find many places who will be willing to take the job if you just turn up with boot full of parts. Plus all the little bits that you may need along the way will cost you a lot more to get later.

Hi KAIGERARD.
Was wandering if you ever got round to fitting the dash from a 2016 Caddy into your 2014 Maxi as this is something I am looking at doing. If you diid do it was it a straight forward enough install?
Cheers.
