i got my 140 mapped, i was going to get it rolling roaded but i didn't have the patience so took it to a local mapper who just plugs his shit in, seems to have done the job as the speedo indicated a whopping 130leptons today, could have gone a bit more. with 180 brake though, i don't see why the van hits such a brick wall at 110. can anyone explain this? my rust bucket red top cavy i had when i was a kid just kept going till an indicated 150.
I realise i was probably doing 122 today and cavy did 138 and i realise caddys maybe a bit heavier but do the mirrors really stick out that much??

Re: 180brake caddy
I don't think the drag from the mirrors has much to do with it when you consider the back end!
You also have to remember that the red top cavi is petrol which develops its peak power high in the rev range where as the diesel caddy develops it's peak waaaay lower down the revs.
an estimated 180BHP is still quite a bit if you've noting on board.

Re: 180brake caddy
yeah that's true mate, it was same with my transporter 174, got that remapped to 206, it just hit this horrible brick wall at 110 and 5 hours later would reach 120, never anything above 120 pro or post map.

I have same situation with mine - think it's just what Doc says. Not a massive problem seeing as I don't have any local Autobahn's!!

When does aerodynamics become an issue?

In a van, it's always gonna be an issue!
Hardly ever gonna cut through the air like the passat CC or a Elise.

Re: 180brake caddy
read in evo a while ago that even the racing caddy (260+ bhp) noticeably slows down at 100 letting the other cars catch up! so they are having problems then so are we!!!
105 tdi with GTB2260 power around 280bhp/405lbft

Re: 180brake caddy
Perhaps a gearbox from a Golf GTI if it fits would give you a better top end.
It is a gearing issue isn't it.
Lets face it, most vans I have driven seem to have a restricted version of a car derived diesel engine.
Usually with very little low end acceleration.
Our Caddy's seem to be the exception to the rule, oh and the Sportive Vauxhall Astra vans. Those things are quick.
