A simple question but how do you know what version your van is?

Ok I will explain. When looking for parts they list the types that they fit.
This does not seem to relate to any info I have on the V5
So I have a 2011 Caddy Maxi. The VIN shows 2KZC but none of the sites. Auto doc/eBay etc don’t show that what is the closest?
A simple question but how do you know what version your van is?

Caddy 3 is the version similar to yours, also called 2K, but yours is the facelift which is from late 2010 early 2011 onwards. The 4 refers to the next facelift which is 2015 onwards and is similar looking. The 5 is the very latest version which is completely different and has little or no interchangeable parts.
Caddy II
Caddy 3 from 2003
Caddy facelift (so still the 3) late 2010
Caddy 4 2015
Caddy 5
The MPV refers to the Caddy Life which has windows, the Kombi is when you have windows in the sliding door and second row of seats but a van rear, and Alltrack (Caddy 4) or Cross (Caddy 3) refers to a version with plastic wheel arches and different trim pieces to make it look a bit off road.

2K is the chassis identification
ZC is the year (2004 = Z4, 2009 = Z9, 2010 = ZA, 2013 =ZC.....)
The models under the 2K chassis were identified by VW as; Original 2K 2004-2010, 2C 2010-2015, SA 2015-2020.
Compatibility on sites such as ECP are not all that reliable as there are parts carried forward between models in the range, especially in the crossover/transitional years.

My gathering as well is that the estate vs van is the estate is the life version as opposed to the regular van, if someone wants to confirm?

Changed to the laptop and could get onto lllparts so could get a part number.
If I remember correctly the last letter is just an update of the same part. Eg “part number” ending in E could be replaced by “part number” ending in F?

This is often not the case. Usually such a suffix supersession is reserved for electrical items with no active components. In your case it may be the difference between SWB vs maxi or light duty Vs heavy duty.

Arrrrg Ford engineering numbers are so much easier.
Might be time to buddy up with my local VW place.
I was lucky to live 500m from one in Germany. Was very useful.

Definitely build a relationship with a parts rep at your local VW Van Centre. From your reg no or VIN, their system will highlight the current part number for your exact vehicle. Part numbers obviously vary according to exact model variant, but can occasionally even change within a model year, a level of detail which the online catalogues can overlook.
