The Butlers Whip.. minor progress 26/7/12

Post by 028butlerboy »

So here we go guys this is my first build thread ever, wish me luck ;)

It all started a few months ago when i was the owner of a ford focus ST, filling up at the pumps i spotted a sweet looking metallic blue caddy pulling up to the pump beside me, completely on the deck and wearing a lovely set of vmr's... i fell in love :D

So the hunt started, after numerous let downs and countless miles covered on the search for that perfect van i almost gave up hope. Then one day while climbing into my pit i decided i would have one last look on gumtree before going to sleep and there it was, 07 1.9tdi with aircon, electric windows and only 30k miles on the clock for £5.5k. Too good to be true i thought so i gave the guy a phone and it was as stated although it was a category D write off, Had been lying up in a breakers for a while before the guy decided to take it on and fix her up for resale.. so after i made sure that everything was legit, no chassis damage, milage correct, i dealt at £4900 and am now the proud owner of a caddy :D

Here's how it looked before..
Image
And this is how she looks now..
Image Image Image Image Heres the touran front i picked up for £150 posted...Just had to get front grilles and towing eye cover, bargain i thought.. Image And here are the wheels i picked up, genuine merc rims 19x8.5 et43, should fit ok.. Image Image Image So it's booked in for spray work next week, fully colour coded, touran front fitted and washer holes filled, rear wiper mechanism removed and filled. Then coilovers and tyres to follow, happy days!

What a great Caddy resurrection! Good to see it returned to the road and looking forward to seeing it on the rims. Great work.

Little update...

Tyres on, spigot rings and bolts got and offered the hoops up to the van just to get an idea of how they will look, will not be fitting them until i get some lows as i ain't keen on the monster truck stance.

Tyres are 215/35 18, only a small amount of stretch..

Lmao, I nearly bought that van when I was looking for mine, he bought it off copart where I was looking at it, the sticker ring a bell, iirc one pic from another angle of it crash damaged has another crashed caddy beside it...

Looks very smart now though ;), love the wheels too :)

Yep got out of copart, used to belong to sigma engineering solutions. Did you not buy the other caddy? :D

Well after some very slow progress (what with holidays, weddings yadeyadeya) and my merc rims collecting dust in the garage. I decided to sell the merc rims and in their place i purchased a set of 09 Audi A4 hoops. Needs lows which should be next week so watch this space!
